Since my springs were worn after 168,000 miles of driving (that and my freinds kept telling me my truck looked lower than they remember, couldn't agree more) I decided to replace and upgrade them with a Procomp 6in lift kit. I've spent alot of time researching and this was really the only option I had since I have a 2wd diesel. The local shop wanted $1400+ not including the B codes, the blocks I wanted to use, or labor. Call me unreasonable, but anyhow, questions:
Will the lift affect my fuel economy any?
Is this something a buddy and I can install? Or should I pay someone to do it?
What are some things I need to do pre and post lift?
Im no expert, but anytime you lift a vehicle and raise its center of gravity its certainly not going to HELP the fuel economy. Be prepared for a difference
When i lifted the truck 4 inchs, i only lost a half a MPG. My buddies dad installed it and i watched. It took a long time, but it wasnt super hard. The directions that came with the kit were good, but yet i have a fabtech and you have a procomp.
Tore, You might lose a MPG or two..... but WHO cares.. You X will look killer... Well, as long as you get new Wheels and Tires..
As far as install.. Me, I like to watch people do it. But if you have a friend that is pretty good with the tools, I think they can handle it. But, I would pay to have it done myself..
Deff dont forget the before and after pics. Are me and you going to be the only ppl on the forum with lifted 2wds?
Actually that would make 3 of us once everything is said and done. Adam Brink has an '03 V10 he lifted about 6 inches too. So we'll be the only people with lifted 2wd X's. Who knows? We may cause other 2wd owners to get lift syndrome.
BTW, there will definately be some before and after pics.

Take Care.
A buddy of mine said he'd do it for me so long as I helped him when he lifted his Dodge. (that and I'd seriously, seriously owe him one) I'd love to have the local shop do it for however much, but there's something a little off about them. Everytime I go there, I can't help but think that they're trying to financially "take advantage of me", so to speak. So my buddy who loves Mustangs to death and knows them inside and out, said he'd help me install it.
The first shop that i went to qouted me $600.00. Which is a really big rip off. Then i went to a local off road shop and the quoted $350-$400. I ended up paying $200.00 because the guy that installed it was my buddies dad. $200 is cheap and i got to watch. From what i heard on this forum, the price should be around $350 to $500.
So I guess I'll be the only one with a LOWERED X? I have a two wheel drive and it will never be off any pavement.
Mine will probably see some occasional light off-roading just because, but it's mainly because things are worn out. To be more honest, I'd sooner pay just under grand, upgrade the suspension, and come out better than before, than pay a grand or more and keep things stock and bumpy. The four of us (mentioned before) bring something unique to our forum: three of us will have lifted vehicles and one of us will have a lowered one. Either way, we may spark a 2wd suspension mod craze.
That aside, the lift will be here sometime this week if Procomp decides to ship. Any last words or final advice before myself and a buddy tackle this project? It looks somewhat intimidating, so the more you know before a fight the better.
I'll start by saying that my lift is finally on it's way (be here monday) after almost 2 weeks of sitting at Procomp. I'll continue by saying that they have terrible, TERRIBLE customer service; the worst that I've seen in years. I ordered my kit monday of last week and thought that I'd be getting my kit that friday. I start getting pissed and call monday (a week later) and after being on hold for 30 minutes they tell me the kit was missing parts and they had to order them. When I called to check on my order, all they ever did was give me a line of BS. They had my cell number on file and confirmed it by asking if I wanted to use the same number I had on file. Why someone didn't call me about this, I don't know, but one thing is for sure, if anyone has to get a lift for their 2wd or 4wd vehicle, go to ANYBODY else but them. They never tried to apologize for the mix up or even offer to ship it faster given my position. Never again.
On a more positive note:
I wasn't sure what size tire I would need with the 6 inch lift I planned so, I went to discount tire today and again they brought a smile to my face. I thought I could get away with 285 michelins or BFG All-Terrains, but one of the advisors there suggested some 305 Goodyear Silent Armor tires since I'd be on the freeway more than off-road. I don't know much about them but they seem like something good, best of all they're load range E, so no worries there.
Anybody have them on their truck?
What's your opinion of them?
How many mpgs did you lose by going to a bigger tire?
Will I need to adjust or have my speedo adjusted?
