After talking to a few local shops about gears, every one of them suggested 4.11s above anything else. I wanted to split the baby and get 4.30s seeing as 4.56s would be overkill for my application. But when I asked about 4.30s, they said it would be a better option and would get me right back to stock, but no one seems to make them. It just goes from 4.11 to 4.56 and nothing in between. They said 4.11s would give me a better highway gear vs stock. I.e. instead of 65 at 1900rpms, it would be 1816 rpms, 45mph would be about 1257 rpms instead of 1300(something). My main concern with the 4.11s is: will my truck fall out of it's power band by and lug itself with lower rpms?
Someone, somewhere, must make 4.30 limited slip gears, any ideas?
It's 4.10's, first. Not 4.11's ... Maybe in a 12-bolt ... But not a Ford.
I've looked around for my SD, and 4.30's are all over the place - aftermarket, or OEM.
I don't get it - something's fishy...
4.10 and 4.11, I figured there had to be some sort of difference. The shops I spoke with knew that I had an Excursion with a 3.73 open diff and suggested the 4.10 Limited Slip. My bad on that one.......
If 4.30s everywhere, who makes them and where can I get them?
The hardest part is finding a shop in the houston area that will install something they didn't sell....
Well boys, once again I've caved and finally decided to regear my truck. (the price of diesel is just now starting to hurt and I miss all the power) While reading over the past few posts, I saw that settling on 4.10s was probably my best option for all the freeway driving I do. Anyone have any objections? (i.e. I should get some 4.30s instead)
I don't know a thing about gearing so I can be any help there but I wanted to ask yall what you thought about axle warp. As you probably already know I put the SD leaf springs on the other night and a 2 1/2in block which gave me 4 in total. Is the 5 in SD block going to be ok to put on with the SD leaf springs or would the axle warp be the same as with the stock X springs?
I also am getting a fabtech 6in lift for the front for 665 delivered w/o the shocks so I also need help picking out some shocks.
And lastly toreador the 315's are on stock rims I see, did you have to get a spacer or do you have that much clearance with the 6in kit?
I may go with the 4.56 gears then, I want my power AND my fuel economy back. I miss the fuel economy more than anything though......
I am extremely smart U wont loose to much economy if u go with 4.56 or 4.88 since ur truck has a overall gear ration of 3.13 now which means it is really struggling to spin those 315's. If u go with 4.56 or 4.88 u will most likely gain city mpg but not by alot. Ull loose high way mpg by like 1 to 1.5 mpgs which isnt bad considering the amount or torque and power that ull gain.
eric, 315's with stocks will rub unless u get spacers which are a no no. Spacers eat up front end suspension components like no other. If u need help with the shocks go to fabtechs website and find their support number and order them right up. How much lift did the SD leafs give u? If they didnt give u any lift, and if u put that 5 inch block on with a 6 inch spring on in the front, ur truck will look like u have 20 ppl in the back of ur truck. Ur trucks rear end will be 1 mayb 2 inchs at the most shorter then ur font end. U always want ur rear to be 1 inch higher then ur front end (mainly for toqing purposes so when u hitch a trailer with heavy tounge, it wont sag like crazy). That means if u lift ur front 6 inchs then ull have to lift ur rear 7. Hope this helps. If u have any more ques, PM me or just ask! Toredor, didnt u do this to cure ur sagging??

the leaf springs alone gave me almost 2 in of lift but it also has a 2 1/2in block on it. so if I get the 5in SD block that will raise the rear up to 7in and the front will be raised up 6in. No I don't want to use spacers that is why I asked toreador if those are stock rims.

Yep, no spacers either, so it does rub a little at full lock. I rarely go lock to lock unless I have to pull a u-turn. (which is rare in and of itself)

Thats awesome, how bad does it rub at full? The ppl at conrads told me that it wouldnt work
You can still turn lock to lock, but it rubs a little on the sway bar; not enough to damage the tire, but just enough to make the turn with a little noise.
