your fine to tow with the aluminum one, it just doesnt take to seroius abuse. i wouldnt mess with the tc lock-up if you dont like the way it is now add a tuner to your mix, they change the lock-up points in the trans, i am goin to try to get a vid done today if i can pack the kids up, yesterday all i got was a ton of tire spin in the rain.
sorry for no vid today the elec fence took priority, cant have the cows eatin my sweet corn.
do i have any requests? i an shooting for a normal stop sign take off, a part throttle and a full throttle blast. 3 vids to upload to youtube to keep it simple

hey yall, I know this is an older post, but I was looking over it today and I wanted to ask you a tranny Q about your mod here coonhunderjoe. My biggest issues with my tranny (E4OD) is a flare going into 4th, and super sloppy operation. My tranny was replaced like 35k ago, and I had ford rebuild it about 10k ago because of the flare into 4th. I really don't understand how there could be a flare into 4th because doesn't 4th just lock the TC? There isn't an actual gear shift right? it just locks the T/C? Anyhoo, your VB drilling mod doesn't effect the actual in gear operation of the tranny, it's just the shift firmness right? The sloppy operation prob that I have is that i'll crank the motor up getting on the freeway or something and the tranny is lagging behind like some lame turtle with a broken set of crutches. The motor will spin up to like 3k or whatever and sit there and the tranny just takes forever to speed the truck up! I know that the ford mechanic told me that I had alot of clutch material sitting in my pan after only 20k on the new tranny so im guessing that the slack is inside the tranny, vice just being the weenie T/C slipping. With the rebuild they supposedly replaced the T/C with the rebuild kit, but it's still super slippy all around. I think I am going to have ford actually replace the tranny because it's still under warranty till june, and then i would like to do the VB drilling mod on the new trans. As for the super slippy operation in gear, any way to cure that? My pops has an E4OD in his 97 gasser and the gears will grip and cycle the motor through the rpm range, vice the motor spinning up and then the tranny slipping until it reaches speed. UGH.... HELP ME PLEASE!!!!! hahaha TIA bud
My tranny has 206000+ (assuming original) and it does that flare just prior to locking the torque converter at around 40mph. The flare is very noticeable most of the time but sometimes hardly at all or not at all, depends on how much throttle, if you lift and probably some other variabls. I did the mod last weekend and it helped with shifting, feels firmer and maybe faster shifts from 1-2. One thing I noticed when I had the valve body out was that as I rocked it long end ways I could feel and hear what felt like a spring or something else sliding to the low end. I just put a John Wood valve body into my wife's 01 excursion with 7.3 and 4r100 trans and did not feel or hear anything moving in the new one or old one. Could a spring or something have broke that might be causing the shift flare prior to lock up?
@c00nhunterjoe This is a great write up on the VB mod. It is my understanding that the VB are interchangeable between E40D and 4R100. Will this mod work on the 4R100 in a 99-03 F250?
