IMO i'd rather be revving it with load, then free-revving the hell out of it in idle.

I agree...I've revved mine up some at idle before (gotta show off the exhaust every now and then), but I don't go above about 4K when doing that. Bouncing it off the redline in neutral or with the clutch depressed is just ridiculous, no good reason at all for doing that. Running it up to the redline when accelerating is different.

k, since were talkin mileage and shift points and all that stuff, when do yall shift your 3.0? also what's your mmileage for a reg cab short bed 4x4 edge?

Just wanted to thank everyone for the comments on when to shift. I have been rev'n it up to around 4000 lately but not everytime. Hopefully that will keep the carbon flushed out. I noticed my wife's car which is a 4 cyl automatic shifts around 3500 and has aways run good and gets good gas mileage.
