Have a 1992 f350 with the 460 and when I'm just doin normal driving it shifts at about 2900 rpm where as I see other peoples who shift at around 3600 rpm is that anything to be concerned with
Maybe the others are holding the gas pedal down farther and trying to accelerate faster, just a thought. At any rate I don't think it'a anything to be concerned about.

I'm assuming your talking automatic? Mine shifts at 2500 max around town, and it'll shift at 2000 most of the time just cruising. To get mine to wind up to 3600 I'd have to be on her HARD. I wouldn't call that normal driving... Even merging on the highway with a steep on ramp I don't need to wind her that high... Mine rarely sees 3000
The 460 makes a lot of power down low. Mine pulls hardest at 2200-2500 rpm when empty. Any more than that and youre just burning lots of gas for nothing. Peak torque is at 2200 I believe. Cant remember where the HP peaks out, but its fairly low too compared to other engines
When pulling heavy loads up hills I keep the revs up (O/D off) but for "Normal Driving" I keep them low (within reason, and don't lug it) to save a bit on gas
