I don't know about the new 6.4 diesels, but on the others I would not at all want mine at idle for more than 15 minutes. I have always seen this to make diesel build up in the combustion chambers and work its way into the crankcase area ending up in the oil and fouling that...
I was always under the understanding that its best for a diesel to idle at a higher level for any extended period. I have always high idled my diesels over the years, for fear of causing more trouble
Now it just seems to me that this new technology that the EPA has made come to be, does have a few things working against the fuel mileage. Makes me wonder if the aftermarket world doesn't eat these problems up too. Not to mention what a few of us here may do in order to fix the issues LOL...
It begs the question in my mind that if this motor has to go into the cleaning process often enough that it affects the fuel mileage, just how would the motor run without that system all together???
Now, sure this would be all for experimental only, as we all here know its against the fed. law to remove such stuff we pay for like this LOL...
My dealer tech suggested "losing" the dpf to see what would happen. I wonder if I left it downtown over night, maybe someone would steal the dpf since they cost so much. Perhaps some junky could trade it for drugs.
What are your driving 250, 350, 450, DRW, short base, etc? What are the gears, 4x4? How are you driving, highway, streets, stop-n-go? 14.2 in a vacuum doesn't make it easy to compare.
Just got back from out of town. Towing +/-18k - ran about 600 miles mix of city/hwy got 7.25mpg. Ran 170 miles all hwy at about 75mph, got 6mpg. Not at all what I was hoping for, but I only have 1500 miles on her. My V-10 does almost that good. The 6mpg was during a bad wind storm so that probably did not help.

Just came back from Movie Night at the school with the kids.....looked down at the Lie-O-Meter and it says 12.2
With 3/4 tank remaining I hope it stays in that range, I'll be happy. BTW it's an F450 4x4 w/4:88's.
Gonna try and install my 5th wheel hitch rails this weekend.....Had the bed Line-X'd last Friday.
