AC problems

Several problems
I have this "in and out" problem. I have a 2006 F250 5.4L Super Duty. The A/C goes in and out between cold and hot. I've read on here where it is sometimes associated with acceleration, etc, but I can't pinpoint a correlation. Also, other issues include heater not blowing hot air (blows cold air). Fan control seems to work okay - 1, 2, and 3 increase fan speed. 4 is about the same as 3. Also, when A/C is running, it seems like the compressor engages/disengages pretty rapidly while idling. Any suggestions?

projectSHO89. I'm sorry. When I asked the question last night about FAQs, I was on my phone, and the signature line doesn't show up on it. When I got on the desktop this morning, it was there. Thanks for the info, but no need to be a jerk about it.
Also, I did read your FAQs, as well as the entire thread about the A/C. I saw the adjustment issue needed for the hot/cold issue, though I'm not sure this is the problem since it does seem to be engaging/disengaging, but will definitely check it out. I didn't see anything about a combination of the hot/cold A/C, and the heater only blowing cold air. I came on here for some help. If you believe you've helped, then again, thanks for the help, but no need to be a jerk. It seems like everyone else can post the same thing about the hot/cold issue and get a nice reply...

I finally got a chance to get the shims and readjust this today like I said I would a few posts ago. Quick question, how far do you guys get you feeler gauges into the gap? I have .2-.25 clearance now, but the feeler only goes in about 3/8-1/2 inch. I know what it is, it is the ridges that form on the plate after years of use. That ridge matches a groove on the clutch. So the feeler won't go past that. I am assuming that since I have that gap on the edge, that it follows the groove/ridges and all is good. Plus, after install, I checked several times that the clutch would disengage. As long as the plate is disengaging, I should be good right?

The "hills and valleys" are a uniform distance apart regardless of where they are, so taking a measurement at the outer edge is all you need to take.
You are an order of magnetude off in your measurements, however, and should read .020" - .025".
If I were you, I wouldn't mess with what you already have.
Be sure to use a little dab of "light-duty" Loctite on that center bolt. You don't want that coming out!

Thanks for the info. I took it for a 3 hour round trip shortly after and it did fine. There is obviously still a little bit of slipping at higher RPMs as it gets colder when I slow down for the small towns. But overall, it is colder at all ranges and hasn't cut out again (yet). It's time for a new belt and idler, so that may help a little too.
Oops, yes, I missed a decimal point, good catch. 1/4 inch would be a bit too big huh?
When I started all this about a month ago, it was around .040" and cut out regularly. Nice to have the AC back to working properly with such a simple fix.

Well then...you should understand the frustration (seeing as how you read the entire post) of having to keep answering questions with "it's in the HVAC FAQ's". Hell, I'm frustrated reading 14 pages with multiple questions that didn't need to be asked if only they had read.
Thanks to those that have contributed the USEFUL posts, I just fixed my system after having read everything. Gap was at .0445, put the shim on my blade honing machine and took it down to .025 and is now functioning properly.

thank to this post and other I did the ac compressor check as well.. was sorta puzzled as i could not find any shims but upon futher prodding with a pick tool on did come out of the hollow area the shaft fits into. It only had one shim.
I check gap before and had a .059 removed the one shim and its now a .020 ish.. turned engine on an cycled the switch and all seem fine. dont drive the truck everyday but last weekend we were coming back from airstream club region 3 rally in ga and noticed it was acting funny at times and go me to thinking and remembered the air gap deal..

I am new and not sure where to post this. If it is in the wrong place, please let me know.
I have a 2006 F150 4 Door, Extended Cab. I need help finding the Blower Relay, cold air slowly forces out when going down the freeway, but that's the only time. The blower does not work at any level. It is a Manual turn dial. The Blower and Resistor have both been replaced. One of the parts places said it may be the Bower Relay, the problem is, where is the relay? Several people have tried to find it and every where the Internet has suggested it may be has been tried! I have found where some have posted that they replaced the Blower Relay and that did the trick! But, no one has posted where they found the actual Blower Relay! If Anyone out there can help me, I sure would appreciate it!
