You can pay with PayPal without opening an account, you just need a credit or debit/credit card. It's as secure as any other online credit card transaction. And I have an in; I have a cousin who works for PayPal so if we ever do have any problem we have an inside line. I've never had a problem though. I did have one issue where I bought a Ranger V8 swap manual and after more than two months it still hadn't arrived, and repeated attempts to contact the seller were ignored. I posted a complaint with PayPal and my money was returned within a week.
Online accounts like PP allow you to transfer the money from your PP (or other) account into your checking account. I understand the paranoia.
Buy all is not lost, my bank (Wells Fargo) also alows transfer of funds to an individual, company, etc as well. You (or anyone else) may be more comfortable doing it that way. It's just with checks and such, even MO's, etc, is the mail-factor. Internet banking is pretty much instantaneous (big word, hope I spelled it correctly!).
As far as me making it up, I'm pretty sure it'll happen, we just have a few deatils to work out on our end, who will feed the dogs, Horse, who will come over to let the little dogs out in the morning and evening...nothing is easy on us when we try to plan for more than a day trip. We also need to make sure we're back early enough on 12/31, my wife has a sitter lined up for the kids and has gotten us tickets to some fancy dinner evening to bring in the New Year, we haven't gone out on NYE for 5 years, since the last litte one was born, if our plans get changed due to me wrenching on a truck, itll be a long, cold ride home...never mind the weather at the Pick and Pull
One more thing, we'd need to have a some plywood to roll the cherry picker on, at least 3/4inch I'd think, and probably two sheets?
I'm going to go check the 5 day forcast for the area.
Tim, check your PM when you get a chance I have a couple of questions on location.
A lot of people feel as you do - but I have done online banking for as long as it has been around, and never had a problem. One guy I know set up a seperate account at his bank to process his ebay pay-pal business - but accounts are free for us as we use credit unions instead of banks.
Basically your paypal account debits and credits your bank account - send out money and it draws the money from your bank account. When you receive money, it deposits it to your bank account. Most transactions take less than a minute, and the money is available for what ever as soon as you are done.
In this engine deal, you would notify Mike how much money you needed, he would send it to your paypal account, which would deposit it to your bank account. you could then draw the money out, or write a check. Since it is all certified funds there is no waiting for a check to clear. The entire process would take less than 5 minutes.
Liz is now telling me that the transfer from your paypal account to your bank account is not automatic - the money stays in the paypal account until you tell it to transfer it. Small difference, end result is the same.
Here's what we can do on the first transaction, since i have plenty of funds in my PP account, I'll go ahead and transfer the money to Tim for the engine, just let me know the price needed.
Once we figure out who is chipping in, just let me know and I'll send PM's.
I don't want to mix the Chapters money with mine, so we can hold off until after I set up another seperate account with PP (or again, whatever other place youo guys/gals are happy with).
My plan would be to set up an account that anyone couold send money in to, but only a few would be able to send money out of. This way if I'm not available, someone else could send money and we wouldn't have to wait for me and possibly miss a deal.
The nice thing about PP is that you don't have to go through your bank account. I don't, though it makes me "Unverifed" status but I don't use it enough to have had any problems because of it. I believe it does limit the amount of the transaction, but I don't recall just what the amounts are...pretty high though, higher than we're talking about here.
This all sounds great. I'm glad you guys have it all worked out, the money part I mean. For me, thats the least fun on this project. Let me know how much I need to contribute when you know. I'll get you the projected total when I do the math, to included the tax and all.
Right now, I need to get going with the wife and start doing the Christmas thing here. She's getting a little impatient with my being on line and tying up the phone line.
MERRY CHRISTMAS my merry Nor Cal Chapter friends!
Enjoy your families and your celebrations, however you have them.
Dial up? You must be that cave man that Geico hired for their ads.
As for paypal, I use it all the time to buy and sell items on ebay and I have had no problems at all.

Reason: typo
Some of us in the boonies have no other choice than dial-up. I have broadband, but that's my only high-speed option. My sister livs 5 miles away and can only get dial-up. Markleeville is the middle of nowhere, I'm surprised they even have phone service up there...
I used dial up until about a year ago, then went with DSL...then the cable company offered a 12 month secial on cable internet, and now there's no way I could even go back to DSL.
I keep trying to drip some of that stuff on me...like in the commercial...ouot of my cable line to get me going in the morning, but no luck so far.
