4X4 part 3 - Engine
He did say that it's a strong running engine that doesn't need a thing, but I'm not really sure I trust his opinion. I can check with my buddy who owns the local wrecking yard and see if he has any and what they'd go for, but it's starting to sound like the FE idea has more merit.

I'll be visiting the local picknpull today to look around at what is available there for cheap. I'll post back with my findings this afternoon.
On the window, the prior owner had apparently been trying to get it out of their yard and left a clue for us. They had painted on the windshield "RUN GOOD". This tells me that we can have this entire, RUNNING and complete engine and transmission for picknpull prices!
It all would come to just over $200 plus tax. That's everything gentlemen!
Of course there is no guarantee that it will in fact run at all as we don't know first hand but all the signs are there that this is a great deal. And this is a truck engine. A rare find for those years.
If you guys are interested, let me see some support, cause I aint goin out there in this coldass weather to do it myself.
Clint, please pm me with your phone number. I will discuss what all I found out there. There is more as well.

Remember, I have a 4X4 C6 w/T-case for a 460, so it would bolt right up to that. Otherwise we do indeed need to scrounge a 460 flywheel/bellhousing/clutch ***'y. I'm not at all averse to running the NP435, I just haven't yet had my question answered as to which is better for our purposes, a stick or an auto. My only concern is that if we have to shift gears mid-track with a stick, the NP 435 is such a notchy, slow-shifting tranny (like most truck trannies) that we could lose momentum and bog down during the shift.
Any thoughts, folks?
Tim, I'd come up there and help pull it in a hot minute but my time on weekends is all tied up till after the 2nd weekend in January...after that I can drive down and lend a hand wherever needed on this project most weekends.
Unless I quit my job, which after the last couple of days doesn't seem like too bad an idea. Then I'll have lots of free time...and no money!
I wanted the stick to control the speed going down a steep hill - the one guy that agreed with me was running an automatic anyway, and said he had no problem using the engine as a brake in low range.
To my thinking the automatic would be better in the mud, ok on the hills, and something anyone could drive.
What do you guys think? Anyone object to the C6?

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I asked the junk yard guys how long this truck would be there before going to the crusher. He said it should be there for a week or two at least. He said that they are getting in so many old trucks that they are getting backed up. The thing is, are these other trucks coming in with a probable running 460 engine and trans? This one seems to be just what we need. Hopefully hear shortly after the holidays we can get together. I'll keep checking on the truck to make sure it's still there. Maybe I can get a hold on it, that is if we can make a financial obligation to the picknpull guys. BTW, how are we doing the financial part? Clint, got any ideas for me? I need to know what to do.
The price of the complete engine w/ all accessories, flywheel forward is $139.99 There is also a core deposit of $29 but if someone has an old engine block, (any type), we can use that.
The price of the transmission is $79.99 with a core deposit of $14.99
Do the math for the total. I don't have time right now as I gotta run to work.
Another thing I forgot to mention is that it also has a set of headers mounted on it! I forgot to look up the price of headers but they're probably about $20-$30 I would guess. However they probaly come with the engine, since the price I gave you was the price of an engine with all accessories from flywheel forward.
I hope it doesn't get stripped of the good stuff before we can get to it.
I have to go to work this morning, and I will be there until Saturday morning. Not sure if the firewalls on the work computer will let me on FTE site or not. Hopefully, I will be on the forum here to check on progress. We'll see if it works ok today at lunch time.
Clint, I'll check my e-mail but probably not until lunch today, that is if the fire walls let me in. I gotta get movin now as it takes me an hour and a half to get there, and I haven't even jumped in the shower yet.
Cheers, T
Curious though, do the Pick and Pull places come yank it out for you once you get it ready to pull?
The picknpull yard rents out cherry pickers to use but I think that's as far as they will go.
Mike, I'm sure you'll come along too, if ya'll manage to arrange a car pool across the mountain? Just a thought.
We are soft enough not to be willing to work on steel parts when they are very cold. The one time I checked they would not let me bring my fire-wrench onto the place. That is the best answer to cold weather work - start lots of fires!

I didn't pay that for my whole truck!
