4X4 part 3 - Engine
"But the simple truth is, if your even thinking of entering mud drags or bogs you just plain need a auto, sticks are great and I know guys that run them in the street stock class, but they usually are out of the competition after 2 runs (double elimination) unless they happen to run up against another stick shift truck. in superstock and above no one even considers a stick as an option"
enough said? C6 it is!
8 years tells the story!
We are soft enough not to be willing to work on steel parts when they are very cold. The one time I checked they would not let me bring my fire-wrench onto the place. That is the best answer to cold weather work - start lots of fires!
It has warmed up a bit here in the last couple of days but who knows how long that will last. It goes up and down this time of year. Right now there is a storm coming in that is supposed to bring some snow to the Carson Valley Floor. The best I can suggest is to stay up on the weather forcasts just before coming over the hill so we don't get stopped by bad weather. Plans can always be modified if the weather is not favorable.
Wear multiple layers so you can remove them as the temp warms and cools through the day. If you have a down coat, your should probably bring it just in case it gets real cold.
But what is funny about this side of the Sierras is, when the high temps are in the 40's, it can get to be tee shirt weather. It's something to do with the dry cold over here. Probably has something to do with the thin clean air too, where the sun is more able to penetrate the atmosphere. It doesn't feel real cold, and the sun can get uncomfortably warm, even with low temperatures.
But if that wind should start up, well lets just say it makes you want to zip up the coat.
If we have a good showing of members to get'r done, then it wont be too bad at all. More wrenches and more hands so we can warm up the fingures between shifts if it happens to be a cold day. Also with more folks, we could get it done in a short amount of time, leaving time after to sit around with a couple of beers, sodas, or hot cup of hot chocolate. (maybe with a shot of whiskey in it as well).
I think this could be a good chapter meet out there if you guys want it to be. Something to brag about in the FTE Chapter arena.
You guys let me know if you all are REALLY tougher than those Vegas whimps and really ARE serious about building this mudder tucker.
(just kidding vegas guys)Lets put our fat typing fingures to work and pull an engine/trans for our beast!

AFIK all I'd need to do to the C6 I have is to install a shift kit, 92 bucks from Summit.
Now, are we going to be able to, or do we want to pull this engine at PnP? Flywheel forward, with all the accessories is $139.99 + the $29. core deposit and tax. not too bad. Of course the distance is a factor, but a good time should be factored in as well, with a chapter meet I would say.
Excuse me now, I must go to the TV. My Vikings are playing fuutball right now.

PS
The Mn. still has a team?
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I'd like to help somehow and I'm off till Jan 2 07, although I have become a bit of a pussay about the chill. As long as it ain't rainin'/snowin' and blowin a 100 mph I may be able to fly down for a pullin party.
The only hardware I have to get rid of is a 2.3 roller head for cores etc.
Big hammers and a few wrenches are the easy part.
Gimme a clue and I'll see what I can do.
Rich
Oh well.
Mike, Rich, Dan, Jim
I sent you guys each a pm.
I think a car pool might be a good idea but that is up to you guys. If that is a good idea, lets also arrange with WillyB. I believe he also wants to join in. Nighteyes is also down that way toward WillyB so....
Dan, I hope you can figure out a way to make it. See what you can do.
Cheers,
T
ON EDIT: looking back through the thread I see there are lots of folks who are involved in this project. Do any of you guys think you might be able to make it out for this engine aquisition meet? Post up if you think you can or would like to try.

It may be a good deal and all, but I'd rather wait until it's in the 50's/60's before I would do something like that outside.
Go ahead, call me a wimp, but I'm being honest.
If there was just anyway to get the truck to a sheltered/dry area?
Regarding waiting until the weather gets better, I thought we wanted to get this thing runnning and ready by the end of February???
It's up to you guys. Like I said earlier, if there is a lack of interest, I sure aint gonna go out there myself to pull the engine. However, if nobody wants to do this engine pull, I'm gonna head out there and strip some of the stuff off of it (cheaply) for my own truck. There are a couple of items that I would really like to have, but am leaving this opportunity open for our chapter. I just hope that nobody goes out there and strips off the hard to find stuff before either us (or I) can get out there.
Let me know if we have a committment guys.
