P1211 and P1280 codes

I've found what the codes stand for but don't have a clue what they're telling me. What is this problem and is it something I could do myself? I'm mechanically inclined with a nice assortment of tools, but I don't know the in's and out's of a PSD. BTW, I have an 02 F250 PSD with no mods. Thanks!!!

P1211 - ICP not controllable-pressure above/below desired
P1280 - ICP circuit out of range low

Sounds like you have a bad ICP sensor, or the harness is shorting out.

i agree with Pocket. what the codes are saying is that the fuel pressure is either too low or too high, and that the ICP voltage signal is lower that it should be which is prob. zero. i would see if you have voltage to the sensor and from if you have it to and not from it would be a sensor but if it is from its excessive resistance in the return circuit.

ICP monitors the HP Oil rail in the driverside head. Unhook the connector and make sure it is clean.

I really hate to sound like a complete idiot, but what would I look for and where? I just climbed on top of the engine to have a look, and there's so many connectors and sensors that I really don't know where to start. I really familarized myself with everything around the drivers side valve cover so I will have an idea if someone can steer me in the right direction.

I have an extensive electrical and mechanical background in industrial maintenance, so I really think I can fix this with a little direction.

Thanks again!

The ICP sensor is on the driver's side oil rail. Just above the valve cover, closer to the front of the engine (but behind the HPOP). Hope that narrows the location down a bit.

Preciate it Pocket! I'll take a look at it again tomorrow when I have some daylight.

1280 points directly to the ICP sensor or its wiring so it is a likely candidtate but here are the possible causes for 1211

rule these out before throwing a new sensor at it
Possible causes:
incorrect oil or viscosity
poor oil quality
gel fuel/no fuel
low fuel pressure
damaged IPR valve
high-pressure oil system leak
damaged high-pressure oil pump
damaged PCM

I thoroughly checked everything and found that the ICP sensor was indeed bad. I just installed a new one this morning and it's smooth sailing now. $142 from the stealer is steep for that part but not as bad as list price at over $200. The lady in the parts department set me up an account so I can get the discounted prices in the future.

Thanks to everyone!

I drove it about 120 miles yesterday (a lot of heavy city traffic) and it was great knowing the power would be there when I needed it. The real test was not plugging in the block heater knowing the temps here would be in the lower 30's this morning. Well, the test was passed with flying colors as she fired right up and purred like a kitten.

Thanks again to everyone!
