If I had kept the $10 from every bet I made with someone claiming to have a 427 that turned out to be a 390, I could afford one of those cool all aluminum cammers from Dove.
Seriously thou, we need some casting numbers. Head #s located between between the exhaust runners on the top side of the heads. Intake #s on one of the front runners. Block #s (if it has any) are on the front passenger side. Date code is under the oil filter mount on the oil pan rail. We need numbers pics of the crossbolts would be a plus.
We're not doubting you, just a little skeptical...thats all.
Well, its starting to look more like a warmed up 410 w/ a block that's been crossbolted. The C8AE-H heads are plain jane 360/390 heads IIRC. Any casting nubmers on the block? What about the intake?
Can pretty much guess the bore is 4.05...maybe 4.08 with a 0.030 overbore. Stroke is most likely a 3.98 428 crank. Like mentioned, its only a guess. If you ever have one of the heads off, post back the bore. Turning a 390 into a 410 is like turning an apple into an orange. Both are great, but the orange is always sweeter! Wouldn't have it any other way.
Yep plain old C8AE-H heads. Still very good units. Like I said before, there is not a bad FE head.
Really, the bore could be anything at this point. With the number of blocks that were in that barn where he got the truck, it's impossible to say what it has. All we know now is it has standard heads.
Even with C8AE-H heads it could still be a marine or industrial 427. Look at the blocks core plugs. If they're screw in plugs instead of pressed in, that's a dead give-a-way for a 427 block, in addition to the cross bolts (3 per side). Might even be a 454 stroker with a 410/428 crank.
