I used this to get my master code. Note that if the code you find doesn't let you create another code, you found someone's secondary code, not the master code & you need to continue the sequence to find the master code.

So, you know those cars with that keyless entry pad? The one under the driver's side handle? Well, if you look closely you will see that there are really only 5 buttons, labeled "1/2", "3/4", "5/6", "7/8", "9/0". In an effort to avoid a little confusion, I'm going to call those buttons 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9, respectively.

A little experimentation will reveal that, if the code is 11357, and you type 5113579, the door will still open! This means that with 7 characters we managed to try out 3 sequences - 51135, 11357, and 13579. After the initial 4 numbers (which sort of primed the pump) every digit tries one new sequence. Since there are 55 length 5 sequences of characters from an alphabet of size 5, we know that we'll need to try 3125 sequences total. With our intuition from above, we would hope that we could find a sequence of size 4 + 3125 (priming the pump, followed by one new sequence every keypress). It turns out that a mathematician named de Bruijn has already done all of the hard work for us on this one, and all of the relevant math can found under the names de Bruijn sequence and de Bruijn graph. But I'm not going to talk about math any further here. Right now, I am going to give you a sequence of minimal length that, when you enter it into a car's numeric keypad, is guaranteed to unlock the doors of said car. It is exactly 3129 keypresses long, which should take you around 20 minutes to go through.

I cannot argue with that notion either...

 

12 year-old kids in the neighborhood looking for iPods and spare change maybe... real car thieves aren't gonna spend that kind of time. But you would think the guys at Ford would set the alarm/horn to go off after 10 bad key inputs or something.

 

It's fairly widespread on the 'net, has been posted here for many years, is no doubt cached by Google, and is readily available in the tech folder as well as being posted every time someone asks.

Which begs the question, anybody that asks might be doing so for nefarious reasons, but it will be answered anyway.

I know. It's just one of those bits of info that removes security. That being said, what's the easiest way to deactivate that keypad? A fuse, or cut the power wire...

 

Yeah, I'd remove the interior door panel and disconnect the wire.

LOL. Unless you have $100's of dollars sitting out in the open nobody is going to spend 20 minutes hacking your security code. If you do have it then an automatic center punch will open it in 2 seconds.

 

It's not that big of a risk really. I mean it was 10 years ago when the truck was new but at this point smashing or slim-jiming the door is a lot faster for thieves who want to steal the actual truck. Most "kids" who steal from cars only look for unlocked doors and could care less about typing in code for 2 hours for your ipod shuffle. Breaking into a car for a few CDs is out too, let's be honest here, Elton John is good but those kids aren't going to work that hard for the Yellow Brick Road... they'll just snag it from their pops

 

Ford dealership here charges $45 to set up the keyless keypad via computer.Lots easier then tearing up your 2000 X to find the mystery sticker code number!

 

I don't know about that... it took about a minute to remove the kick panel and find the code on my '05; once you guys told me where to look.

Ford dealer is 45 minutes round-trip, plus the wait, plus the $45.

 

I spent 45 minutes tearing into my dash trying to find it and it was nowhere to be found $45 would have been a great deal for me. I'm cheap though so I just carry my key with me

 

On my current EX, I went to the dealer for an oil change and they gave me the code for FREE.

 

Or you could find a helpful guy with AutoEnginuity. If you were local I could pull your code in less than 5 minutes.

Yea on a 2005.......The issue is finding them on 2000 X!!
