Thought I'd post my results.... I looked everywhere - even took the radio out and could not find the box. Turns out it was hidden behind some white insulation - and a fairly large bundle of wires. It was almost directly behind the 4wd switch panel on the firewall. I could look straight up while laying on the floor and with a mirror and flashlight read the front label. Factory code is now written in the manual and a personal code set! The best part is I was able to disable that auto lock!
I have a 2001 X with the same problem. I sure would appreciate it if you could email the codes and any instructions on how to do this. This would great to not have to pay the dealer to find the code.
Email address is pato2004@comcast.net Thanks.

Your 03' is about the time they started putting them under the dash so you might not find it. Just use the code and you will be in in less than 20 minutes.
I have a 2000 X, and when I bought it, the owner had no idea of the code. So I looked at article after article... tore apart the WHOLE dash, and looked in all the places... NO CODE... I guess they didn't put printed codes on the '99 SuperDuty and 2000 X.. I wasn't about to pay $100 for some guy to tell me the code, so I looked into it more. I read a forum (not sure where) where someone used Microsoft Word to create a Macro to make all the possible codes... (sounds like something you wouldn't want to do, but you will be surprised) There are 5 buttons on the keypad. So you go into word create this macro that uses all the possible 5 digits numbers it could make with 0 1 2 3 4. It makes about a total of 10 sheets of codes at like 5 or so columns on each page.... TONS OF CODES. You then label the 1/2 key: 0 the 3/4 key: 1 and so on.... so now your keypad looks like 0 1 2 3 4... then you enter codes.... I did this for 10 min. and found my code. Some may be quicker, some may take longer... If anyone would like me to send them this word document with all the numbers, I would be glad too, also if anyone would like me to explain the procedure better I will. I'm so greatful that I found out about this way. I wish I would have remembered who it was so I could give the credit to that person, but it was probably 6 or 8 months ago. Good Luck!
i have a 2000 v10 excursion and i have looked all over under the dash and can not find any box with a number on it,there is a box behind the radio up under the metal support of the dash but cant see any number, if sumone can email me the process of trying different number in sequence that would be great, thanks
I found my code on my f250 behind the radio area. I took off the coin or storage box and had to move some insulation and cables to see it, but found it on a white box.
