Say, Marcus.....coming in late, I know. Just purchased a 2001 X Ltd. I pulled your formula but unsure how to use it. I'm sure you've explained somewhere in this thread but I haven't found it. Is there a simple explanation?
i have a f250 it was a little of work but i found it there are two ways one look up under dash behind radio on firewall. what i did was removed my radio and pushed the padding aside and it was there. small box with 5 numbers thats it.
On a pre-2002 you have one 20 minute option..
The De Bruijn sequence!! It's 3125 numbers that WILL unlock your door..
Once it's unlocked backtrack 5-10 numbers and start from there until you figure out
what 5 digits did it.. Not fun, but you can do it quicker then going to the dealer.
Actually, I now realize that the same info and link are posted a couple
of messages above mine!
I tried last night to find the box with the code (label) on it... no luck
on that front! I only had the first page of this message thread - now
that I am reading more I see that it can even be under the insulation.
Is it mounted on the firewall? Is it directly behind the radio, or is it
a little bit higher, lower, left, or right (projecting the footprint of the
radio into the firewall)?
It would have been quicker to use the 3129 digit sequence above,
but I would like to know where the box is for future reference anyways.
I'm still reading this meaage thread. I'm going to post a summary here at the end...
I just found this:
In the 2000-2001, it is called the Generic Electronic Module (GEM) —Generic Electronic/Central Timer (GEM/CTM) and is located behind the fuse panel. You have to dismantle the fuse panel to get to it.
2001 -02 instructions From the Ford DVD's:
The GEM controls a variety of systems:
4-wheel drive functions
front and rear interval wiper/washer
warning chimes
keyless entry
interior and exterior lamps
power windows
To get to it you have to disassemble the truck... here is the post,
but unfortunately the pictures are gone: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...ml#post4072240

In 2002 and up, it is located behind the radio in the center of the dash and it is called the Vehicle Security Module (VCM).
From the Ford DVD's:
The VSM controls the following systems:
remote keyless entry (including panic feature)
computer-operated locks
autolamp
keypad keyless entry (Excursion only)
Vehicle Security Module

fyi 2001 navigator module is tucked in the under the driver's side of the dash. Cream colored box. You'll need to be on your back with your head by the brake pedal and a flash light. Look straight up... 5 digits in about 14 font. Follow the rest of the instructions on this thread for programming and you're in business. Don't you just love the Internet!
I found my '04 code by laying on my back with my head near the accelerator pedal, the black box is mounted on the firewall, behind and below the radio. The label with the code is on the face of the black box. I used a flashlight and a mirror to read the code. The numbers will be backwards and upside down. Code entered and worked about 20 seconds later.
Well, I found the code on the box, but it doesn't work! The only thing that DOES work is "Locking the doors" when you press the last two buttons at the same time. It locks but I can't get it to unlock. So I have a few questions: 1. On button 1, if you want to select #2 do you press that button twice? Or do you only have to press it once regardless of which number you need?
2. When I try it that way, (pressing the button twice to select the second number on the button) the whole key pad starts flashing. What's that mean?
I stopped by the dealer today to order an owners manual and I thought I'd ask the service department about the keypad not working with the factory installed code. He said some stuff and said they'd have to retrieve it with their computer ($45). I said that I already have the factory code (that I found on the box) I just want some insight on why the factory code wasn't working... and WHAT wasn't working. I"m pretty mechanical, I can replace it myself if anything is broken. He insisted that the only way you can get the code is with the computer and that it would take 1/2 to 45 minutes. I told him about the box which controls something like 5 or 6 different things and the code is on that, plain as day. He says, "Well who ever wrote that code on there must've wrote the wrong number..." When I said once again that it was a factory sticker on the module he got a confused look and went back to the retrieval with the computer thing.
Grr. Retards. I'll take it to the other Ford dealership. Maybe they'll do it for free.
Whoever had the truck before me never gave the code to the dealer. O'well, I have the code, it just won't unlock the door.
