Well it ain't my hockey team, I usually HATE them, but I have to cheer for the Canadian team, with fans that know that real hockey is only played on a cold hard surface.
Every Canadian has at least one hockey player in his immediate family I would guess, my dad myself and my son all played hockey and I can hardly think of anyone that hasn't got a similar story.

I would guess the Hurricanes is about 75-80% Canadian boys, with a few US and European players sprinked int the mix. I am guessing not many of them is a redneck who plays hockey with a ball.

And I am guessing(well, knowing after this) that Canadian hockey fans are VERY sore losers and will say anything untrue to TRY to make themselves look or feel better. Sorry you have a complex about this and because you are a Ford guy Ill say better luck next year and I hope you behave better at the games All I know is my 'Canes, at this time, are winning NOT EVEN knowing how to play with a hockey ball

BTW I checked the roster to see where they are from. SORRY NOT FROM CANADA. Not the majority(not even close)

I didn't realize I was being ill-behaved.. this is how Canadians talk about hockey where I am anyway.

I give Carolina credit, they are a good, well-run team.Their fans do not boo national anthems They have a great goalie, and some other good players.

Like Eric Staal from Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Cory Stillman, from Peterborough,Ontario
Rod Brind'Amour from Ottawa,Ontario
Justin Williams from Cobourg,Ontario
Mike Commodore from Fort Saskatchewan,(just outside Edmonton) Alberta
Aaron Ward from Windsor, Ontario
Glen Wesley from Red Deer, Alberta (near M1llion)
Ray Whitney from Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta
Mark Recchi from Kamloops, British Columbia
and the goalie Cam Ward from Sherwood Park (Edmonton) Alberta.

At least not many of their key players are from Canada.

In that case Ringo(the way Canadians talk about hockey) then OK, my error. Down here we tend to stay on a game level and dont get insulted or crabby against fans and stadiums, just teams. Truth be told if a Carolina fan booed another national anthem I do believe they would be beat up at the stadium for making us look like poor sports. I know Americans have a bad rap but plain Americans are pretty laid back and respectful of other countries. Canada, our brother, would never be tolerated being booed. Try going to a game here if possible. Id say next time I will get you tix but I couldnt get any for myself this round so I prolly cant get them next round either.

As far as the roster I stick with what I said, Canadians are not the majority. Down here we think IF Canadians WERE the majority we would have had the cup here already.

BTW I am 1/2 Canadian. Moms side. Ontario.

Let's not get nasty here

It's only a Name

But,I have to ask
How many players on the Hurricanes team were born and raised in NC ?

It's a well known fact that there are states that don't have a clue about some sports because those sports are foreign to them.

Myself, I'm a fan of "the game" and NOT a name .
This thinking allows me to cheer for all teams without bias.

Oh ! On a personal note: it is not un-common for a Canadian Hockey Fan to not want the cup go to a team from the Southern US.
Just as a US Baseball Fan would not want the World Series won by a Canadian Team..but things like this happen. (Too bad that championship is wrongly named though)

But back in May I stated that the team out of the Eastern Conference would win the cup ...plain and simple.
It looks like that will be the result

Oh ya, I get my love of the game naturally.....
My Dad played with the infamous Kraut Line during WWII.... Milt Schimdt, Porky Dumart, & Bobby Bauer.... and was scouted by the Bruins in 1944.

LOL, how many team members are from the city and state they play for on ANY TEAM on ANY SPORT.
It's a well known fact that there are states that don't have a clue about some sports because those sports are foreign to them.<<--- your qoute.
It is now a well known fact that some people make up well known facts Carolina has had a hockey team here since at least 1969. Maybe longer. Thats when I started going.

I dont mind Toronto winning the series. If it aint my White Sox (I know I know) then it dont matter to me anyway.

Ill say this though, you Canadians sure take this seriously. It aint Canada against the USA, its Edmonton against the Hurricanes. Thats the way I see it anyway.

LOL you are right. In the end it will just be the Windbags or the Greasers taking home an oversized trophy, and in 10,000 years it won't really matter

I think we are so sensitive because we had high hopes pinned on our Olympic team, who failed us miserably (the men that is) and we are still trying to get over that hangover

Not as serious as fans/gamblers of football (soccer) in South America (they kill and riot), or in Europe.

I'm looking forawrd to Wednesday night. And I'm hoping for an Edmonton win. Not just because I want them to win. It's purely greed on my part. I want the SC Finals to go to seven games because once they're over, they're over. No NHL until next fall.

And as mentioned before, I'm a recent convert to hockey. A self-proclaimed casual fan.

That depends who you ask. Most Canadian hockey fans (myself included) do see it as a Canada vs. US series. I guarntee you that most Canadian fans would cheer for any of the 6 teams up here before cheering for an American team. My reasoning for this is that it is national pride. The NHL in Canada is like the NFL in the States. In the same way that the Superbowl draws the entire country together, the Stanley Cup does the same in Canada, and when we have one of our own to rally around, even better. If the Oilers can win this series (which is now an immense long shot) or the Flames had won last time, the country would essentially shut down for a day or two. IMO, the only sports fans more passionate about their sport than a Canadian hockey fan is a soccer hooligan.

I have to disagree that there wouldn't have been many baseball fans mad when the Jays won the WS, for the same reason as when an American team wins the Cup; National Pride. Baseball has always been called America's pastime, and watching someone else beat you at your own game can be infuriating.

Having said that, I must give credit where credit is due. Carolina has played very good hockey, and to date have had an incredible PK, and Ward has played amazingly well.

I checked, and there out of the 25 man roster for Carolina, there are 11 Canadians. Not quite a majority, but that's still more Canadians than any other nationality.

Trevor

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My point is: There are Edmonton Born and raised boys playing on the Oiler team.
That's why Oiler fans are so Involved :0
When it comes right down to it,
These teams only Represent a city, these players don't necessarily Support that city, so why do fans "of the name" get so emotional about a team ?
These players can be on a plane to the next team so quickly and make fans look so stupid "in a heartbeat"
Now, I know Carolina has had Hockey for years and so have a lot of other places in the US.
I'm pretty sure the comment about the PUCK relating to hockey wasn't meaning "YOU" as it appears ,you are the exception.
As far as other places go ....It's a given by any Real Hockey Fan that there are farm teams all over the US.
My point there is:The Southern US is NOT noted for Hockey and you know that.
They are noted for Football, Basketball and baseball
Yet Most ML baseball players are from Central America.
At one point NHL hockey consisted of only Canadian born men and there were 4 US based teams at the time.
Hockey,Lacrosse and Yes even Baseball are Canadian Games.
Oh and about Beer !
The crap that those major breweries pump out, I wouldn't waste on marinade.
I Support Canadian Micro-Breweries
LOL Trevor, me thinks you just might be right. However when Toronto won the world series in '92(I think it was 92) I dont recall any Canada bashing because of it. Maybe I dont get out enough... Im still gonna try the beer aproach to the next game, maybe Ill see it that way....joking
But I did learn a lesson here. DONT MESS WITH CANADIAN HOCKEY
Enjoy the game.
AND Mil1ion, I know. I was just razzing about the 'Canes winning so far. I just didnt realize it meant that much to ya. You are correct with what you said about southern states and their teams.
