I was just razzing about the 'Canes winning so far. I just didnt realize it meant that much to ya.
~~~~~~~`
That's just it. I doesn't mean that much to me.
It's a game, I love THE GAME in its purist form .
I don't care who wins as the winners don't affect me in any way.
I said over a month ago:
"The Stanley Cup Champs will come out of the Eastern Conference no matter who it is".
I knew and felt this from what I know about Hockey..."The Game" ...I couldn't care less about the name.
I believe the Jays won 2 WS back to back. And it bugged me, but not because they were Canadian. It irked me more because they were an "expansion" team. (which is funny because when the Diamondbacks defeated the Yankees I was happy with the outcome - eh, the Yankees) As for the American Pastime and people beating us at it. The Blue Jays winning the WS wasn't nearly as big a deal to me as how that year after year after year some other country beats the USA in the Little League World Series.
Anyway, I'd love for Lord Stanley's cup to be won by one of the orginal 6, as long as it's not Detroit. But that wasn't to be this year. As I recall the Canes used to be the old Hartford Whalers, the last remaining team from the old WHA before they were moved to Raleigh.
Back on topic, the NC area has some football and baseball leanings but is really known for basketball, specifically NCAA (and NASCAR of course).
Canada, other than the rodeo greats that come from there and the Calgary Stampede, is known for Hockey. The whole country. Not just a particular region. When the announcer says "It's Hockey Night in Canada" he's not talking to a small minute portion of the TV viewing audience that's decided to tune in while "CSI" is on a commercial. He's talking to about all the people watching TV that night.
Oh, and I don't drink alcohol. Is there a Canadian soft drink that I should be looking for? (other than Canada Dry that is)
actually the only carbonated soft drink I enjoy is Diet Dr Pepper LOL
I like homemade iced tea, which I mispronounce in French purposely to get my Montreal born wife's goat as 'Thuh Glakee' (the glace)
In fact, I purposely mispronounce anything French, I dislike having that rot shoved down my throat.
It's my wife, BTW who always puts on the hockey game first, how often that happen with the NFL or baseball?
BTW church turtle, the Oilers were a WHA team. I think they may be the only one left in their original form.
Who is the Hurricane player that was born in Buffalo? His parents are normally Sabres fans but we can forgive them for switching teams during their last series.
One team starts off with a weird situation and gets a goal.
The other team works hard and plays very well using all the fundamentals of hockey but only scored with a Man advantage on 3 occaisons.
The other team who didn't play all that well again was able to get a couple over the goal line and ends up with ONE player (while team is short-handed again) taking real advantage of a mis-cue by the better team.
My cable was out last nite(storms). That was tv and computer for me. I paced all night as a friend called with the scoring. I know I was sweating it all nite. From what I understand from the paper this morning I missed a wild one. I am surprised it didnt get postponed due to flooding, there was 7 inches of rain in Raleigh yesterday. My wife is there and saw major flooding. Oh well, on to the next!!
