is anyone here using this and if so do you like it or is it a waste of time. alos how hard was it to figure out and what kind of intake system are you using with it.
and yes i did search but everything was a dead end to as weather or not anyone was using it there was a lot of talk abou tgetting ready to or wanting to but no one ever seems to have done it or found something better
I'm working on two systems right now, one is a two-injector system for a four cylinder Subaru, and the other is a multiport system for a 390. You need to do a lot of legwork with the kit, and know fuel injection systems pretty well, along with soldering, mid-level automotive electrical, and computer programming skills. It's easier than trying to make a GM TBI system run a Ford engine, plus it doesn't control spark, ie- you can run the distributor you have, run a custom high output ingnition, or come up with your own system.
You do need to track down most of the pieces you need on your own, but a lot of part numbers are given with the kit.
thanks for the info i guess ill just have to read up on fuel injection so i dont break anything and i think ill try it on my engine i have now to get it all wired up and working then just reconfigure when i get the new motor done. do you know if you can use ford parts instead of gm as i dont like to put anything on my engine thats not ford. also do you think that it would be smarter to use a efi intake and heads or make my own intake either is an option right now and not that hard for me also im leaning twords a tbi setup because of ease of doing so.
Contrary to what was posted above, it does control spark. Best place to start is to go to the forums over at www.msefi.com - that is the Megasquirt site. If you are the kind of person that installs a carb and sets the idle and is too lazy to do any other tuning, then EFI is NOT for you. On the other hand, if you like putting in the time to tune, then go with EFI. We have one on our desert racer using all the stock Jeep components (multi-port), and I'm getting the parts together to convert my 460 powered motorhome, using a GM throttle body on an Edelbrock intake (TBI style) - bith with full spark control. The racer also has a wide-band O2 sensor so we are able to tune for specific AFRs. We had used a high-end aftermarket controller on the racer, and the MS unit is way more user friendly.
Six i was under the impression that the MS v2 had the ability to control ford EDIS, Is this the case or do you have to use the Megasquirt N Spark for this?
Im seriously considering using the megasquirt on the 390 i am building along with the 670cfm holley TBI. And I'm torn between using the dizzy for spark or setting it up for EDIS.. whadda ya think?
Just have to ask yourself if you want to run a crank trigger on the ignition as well, and if you can get one or have to make it. The base MS only controls fuel, you can add on a piggyback control for ignition.
I'll be ordering my first kit on May 20th, I'll let you know exactly what it does and how it works then.
