Edge Vs.

Been looking at the edge evo. for the f150, and have been looking at alot of others. A few questions; doeas anyone have the evo (another thread had a few people who were buying it), how do you like it, how does it compare to the x-cal or diablo, and if there are any pictures of the edge or any other tuners/programmers yall have, post them.
also, reasons why you chose the program

Here is a post that I found on the Edge evo. unit. I will be able to let you know some more once mine gets here. According to FedEx's tracking number, mine will be at my house on Thursday and in my truck at about 4:30 that night . (I get home from work at 4:15 )

I have one. I don't have any comparison as this is the first tuner that I bought. I don't have a picture ... my truck is real dirty.. it's winter here and the roads are ugly.. maybe someone else will pop you one.

I chose the Edge because it seemed like it would be good. I am not looking for performance. My single complaint about my F150 is the shifting. I do not like the way it shifts. The Edge has a remedy and I can customize it. I would like a little better fuel mileage... Edge seemed like it would do that according to the early reports. So with better mileage the unit would pay for itself.. and it will. I am happy to say my Fuel mileage is up a solid 10%. It still costs the same to fill up but I find that I get at least 35 to 50 miles extra a tank... so that will eventually pay for the Edge.

I wasn't sure about the shifting... but seems like I forgot about that complaint.. Today I went to dealer for my free 10K service and I put the PCM back to stock... and in 10 miles.. I was complaining about the shifting!!!!

Once I got it installed....

I have the latest F150 tune.. My build date was June 14th 2005 so I really didn't have any complaits about the engine response... till I programed the High performance tune.. whoa... didn't know what I was missing!

There will be updates and the software will download for the unit.. I am told they are going to provide a way to adjust idle and instanous MPG readout. I will be free.... I like that.

Another point is the display is really cool.. I monitor the Engine head temp, Engine oil temp and the trans fluid temp and the engine load. There are some 17 (? or so) different things that you can monitor and set points at which you want to be notified... I like that..

Another alarm feature is I have the Edge set up to alarm when I hit 70.. I travel a road that has lots of speed enforcement and 70 will keep me 'safe'. The display flashes speed alert when I hit '70' so if I am not paying attention....

Another point is that it installs in 3 minutes... and comes out in 2 minutes so you can take it to the dealer... after you returned it to stock... got to protect the warranty...

You get my drift.. IMHO a tool worth the price...

Got mine today, took about five minutes for programming. Great Monitoring Tools, able to view my coolant, trans, oil and cyd head temps. So far happy with it. I used the tow/performance 87 oct tune, filled my tank and during my drive to work saw an increase of gas mileage. Went from 13.8 to 18.2, thats what my computer is reporting. Will have to kept evaluating on next few weeks for overall gas mileage.

I got my Edge today and so far it's sweet. Its on the tow setting, and with my exhaust, and cold air it runs awesome, and shifts alot better.

hello

wondering how hard it was to run the wires and mount the unit. Does the unit stay pluged into the diag. port?

Thanks
Jason

It is so simple it is unbelievable... the wire is about 18 inches and it only connects to the OBDII connection.. takes 10 minutes if you really dog it... stays plugged in because it displays dynamic info on the display.

scale of 1 to 10... 10 being hardest.. I rate this lower than a 1...

neone do a high performance tune on the edge? and has their been any trouble with the 93 octane level. I heard in a different forum that some people who tuned it to the 91 or higher high performance tune that the computer acted up. This is probly just a myth, and either way, im probly going to get the tuner, but how satisfying has it been when the higher performance tune is on?

Yancy...come to the dark side....load the BIG file on that bad boy! Once you run the hot file...it will be hard to ever not run it. If you can afford the good fuel, do it! Just dont load the lvl-3 file and try to chince on fuel and run 87 oct....or detonation may send you to the dealer for new pistons.....

Sorry Yanceyraider24 sometimes Larry gets a little out of hand when it comes to power. I think its been like 4 months since we fired up the pulling truck. Its out have'n a new engine built. Once you play with close to 1000 hp its kinda like crack. He's gettin the itch already. Some times I hear him in the back of the shop talking to it. lol Anyway, he is looking across the office like he knows somethings up so im gonna post this before he

Yancey, I will get some pics of the evo. and pod mounted in my truck and post them tomorrow for you. I got mine on wednesday, a day sooner than I thought!!! It took about 2 mins. to run and secure the wire under the dash, and about 10 mins to get the pod secured. The first 2 times I mounted it, it just didn't stick. But the third time was the charm.

I have only run the evo in the "tow mode" level 2 so far. As I had a full tank of gas currently in the truck. But once thats gone and I get some 93 oct. in the truck, level 3 here I come. In just level 2 the truck has changed alot, more low end power, the tranny shifts really nice now, and it is awesome having the monitor to keep track of everything.
