Actually, if you removed the battery cables for 30 min, and re-hooked the batteries up....then cycled the key on/off slowly 8 times...the P1000 code will not be there. The only thing he could "look" for at that point is the velcro on the dash...adn thats going to hard to use as a legal means of stopping a warranty.

I would think, if they knew and wanted to fight it you could say that it is/was being used to monitor tranny temp and other temps in order to prevent damage, especially if you tow with your truck.

Really, if you remove the unit and clear the P1000 code...what can you argue about. Can they deny every warranty on every truck sold because they have a sneaking suspision (spelling?) that every human that has a car or truck has a power programmer? If you dont have it on the truck, and you dont leave a code behind....they have no grounds at all to deny warranty. And, if your warranty is denied....they do (by law) have to prove that the failure was a direct result of the aftermarket part or tuner. They make threats that are really illegal...they attempt to scare the uninformed.

Read this:
US Code - Title 15, Chapter 50, Sections 2301-2312

Legally, a vehicle manufacturer cannot void the warranty on a vehicle due to an aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part caused or contributed to the failure in the vehicle (per the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)) . For best results, consider working with performance-oriented dealerships with a proven history of working with customers. If your vehicle manufacturer fails to honor emission/warranty claims, contact EPA at (202) 260-2080 or www.epa.gov. If federal warranty protection is denied, contact the FTC at (202) 326-3128 or www.ftc.gov.

Do a google search on this phrase:
Magnuson moss act

The dealers are calling your bluff!

Thumbs up installed Edge a week ago

Hey, guys. Rather than opening another thread on the Edge I figured I'd add to this one with my experience. I received and installed my Edge about a week ago. I had just filled up with 87 octane so I just used the Tow setting and customized it by checking the gear ratio and changing the tire size. Immediately I could feel a positive difference in the power. I didn't realize I had throttle lag but apparently I did because the truck is so much more responsive now. I swear the truck even sounds a little "tighter" if that makes sense. I ran ¾ of my tank with the Edge, ran it harder than usual, and ended up getting about 330 miles when the low fuel warning came on which is right on average. If I lay off the gas a little I think I’ll be seeing a little better MPG than without the Edge. This is 90% city driving.

I noticed when I floored it I got some pinging but I attribute this to using 87 and not 89 octane. Easily fixable. The tire size setting doesn’t seem to stick even when I “Load Previous Settings.” The default was something like 2334. I changed it to 2559. When I Load Prev Settings again it’s a 2564 – I can duplicate this. Once after changing only the tire size again and cycling the power, I started the engine and it raced to about 4000 RPMs. I jammed the gas quickly and it rev’d down to about 2800 RPM and stayed there for about 30 seconds until I turned the truck off.

I finally emptied my tank tonight and filled up with Shell’s V-Power 91 octane. I ran it for about 5 miles to get the 87 octane out, stopped, and loaded the Performance tune. Wow! The roads are a little wet now and it was dark so I really couldn’t get too crazy but there is a nice improvement over the Tow setting. No ping at WOT. I might set the shifting so it’s a little firmer. Before I got used to the new throttle it seemed like there was only two levels of acceleration – 1) idle and 2) speed up really fast.

Pros: The pod fits almost perfectly. I didn’t have to use any tape or Velcro; it just doesn’t move. The display can be changed to any color. It looks great. No wires to look at. There’s a clear increase in power and torque. Throttle lag is gone. Readouts of any parameter I could want (transmission temp, engine load, instant MPG, etc). The truck’s engine and exhaust sounds better.

Cons: Umm… I see other guys here having some issues? I haven’t experienced any of them. Oh, and when I originally installed the software I changed the default installation location. That didn’t go so well so I had to reinstall and use the default. No big deal. Sometimes when it’s cold it idles higher than usual.

I’ll also say Discount Power Parts customer service is great. I emailed them a few times and they were very prompt (same day) in getting back to me. They were professional but I also felt like I was talking to one of my truck buddies.

Bottom line. I was a little leery of making the purchase after reading posts on people (asinatra and others) who aren't having any luck with their Edge. I, however, am a very happy camper, er… driver.

I'll be making a 400 mile, mostly highway-freeway (I-84 and 97), trip on Friday. If anybody is interested in hearing how the Performance setting, mpg, etc goes lemme know.

pretty in depth. nice, but i dont know whether or not the engine or exhaust loudened, they may have, but i dont know. anyone !really! really know how to tune and have some past experiences with tuning. If so, what, if any, are the good settings for this tune and how did you do it.

I'm catching flack from the forum for not posting anything for awhile. Its hard when I spend most of my time reading all the excellent inputs on great topics. Anyhow, I have one question about the edge as I am hoping to get one. Being that I live in Canada and we are on the metric system, can the different measurements be switched? (i.e.- mpg to kilometers/litre). I know its a minor glitch, but it would sure save me having to do alot of Math!

EDGE box for '01 F150

I am looking at buying an Edge Performance Module and was wondering if it comes with a mount for my truck. The only thing I won't be of any use to me on it is the trans stuff becuase I have a 5 speed, but from everything I have read on here it sounds really great. Does the Discount Power Parts guy sell one for the '01 F150. If he does I want one. So far I haven't had time to do anything to my truck perf. wise, I just bought it Thurs. March 16, but plan on a TB, MAF, and Exhaust, and of course the Edge, for starters.

Not sure if they do but give them a call. I found their link on the left hand pane under "current sponsors." I'm sure they'd be glad to hear from you.

Yes we carry Edge, BUT....For your year they do not have the attitude monitor that installs in your truck. Its an Evolution tuner. Check it out on Edges website...

So I have a question. The Edge tuner sounds like something I am interested in purchasing so I can get better performance out of my 5.4L engine. I am also interested in the Factory Tech valve body for firm shifting with out changing the stock line pressure. Lets say I install the valve body first, Am I then stuck with purchasing a custom tune? Or is it possible to install one of the "canned" Edge tunes with out applying the changes to the transmission. I have read many threads here about tuning and what not, but have not seen this question addressed. My end goal is to run 87 - 89 octane fuel, improve engine performance the best I can, frim up the shifting, and increase the RMPs to when my overdrive kicks in. I hit overdrive way to early with the factory settings. Any input is appreciated. My truck is an 05 S.Cab, 5.4L, 4x2, all stock at this point.

Thanks,

Shawn

I called Edge to verify what I suspected...The reply is that you have a selection of transmission tuning/line pressure adjustment and you have the choice while applying the tune to adjust the transmission tune levels to 0%. At that point you are getting the engine tuning, but leaving the tranny tune alone completely. So you can use the Factory Tech valve body and still use the Edge with the attitude monitor on your 04-06 F-150. Hope this helps.

Larry.

Awesome. I was hoping this was the case! Thanks for making the phone call Larry, I certainly appreciate it. I'll email you guys an order when I am ready to step up to the plate. I currently have 1,700 miles on my 05 and will put a few more miles on it before diving in the world of F150 mods.
