Matt- I used to be understanding toward the techs at this dealership, I had heard the horror stories of what it was like to be one, that is, until the moment they used the phrase "customer abuse."
I can absolutely 100% agree with that. The techs have no business making that accusation at all.
Just had the 3 recalls completed on my 04 F350 FX4, not sure why they replaced the CAC. I had previously blown the turbo hose off before and they replaced the clamp. Idle sounds more like the older engines, loud! Throttle is better, passed some folks easy this morning.
The CAC tube is replaced because the plastic ones aren't holding up, so they're being switched back to metal. The quiet idle strategy has been changed to (apparently) stop quiet idle after 5 minutes instead of the original 10. This has (apparently) been done to reduce EGR valve carboning.
From National Highway Safety Administration, Office of Defects investigation (ODI):
"FORD SUBMITTED NEARLY 19,000 WARRANTY CLAIMS, MANY OF WHICH INVOLVED CLAIMS FOR A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB 04-13-08) AND FIELD SERVICE ACTION (FSA 03B05) WHICH FORD IDENTIFIED AS POTENTIAL REMEDIES FOR STALLING COMPLAINTS. ODI HAS NOT CONFIRMED THAT EITHER OF THESE ARE A REMEDY FOR ENGINE STALLING COMPLAINTS. SEVERAL OTHER DEALER COMMUNICATIONS RELATED TO ENGINE STALL WERE ALSO SUBMITTED AS WELL AS OVER 50 PRODUCT MODIFICATIONS, 15 OF WHICH INVOLVE REVISIONS TO THE SOFTWARE FOR THE ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROL UNIT.
What you think? 50 modifications and 15 reflash tries.
If you own a 6.0 you should be ready for the recalls and reflashes.
Awesome engine that Ford service can't manage at all.
So I got my truck back Tuesday afternoon from having all of the recalls applied to an 04 with a 10/03 build date. Aside from the truck being louder, there is one thing I noticed that I was not anticipating.
In the past I could start the truck, then lock it and eventually use my keypad to get back in my truck while it was running. Yesterday, much to my wife's dismay, I found out that I can no longer do that. The keypad is disabled while the keys are in the ignition and the truck is running. Not a horrible thing, but i realy would've loved to known that prior to making my wife drive 50 miles to let me back in my truck.
Keeseter CO, Thanks for the Heads Up. I just called my wife at work because she has the truck today and she often uses the keypad to get back in as you used to do. Does the remote unlock the truck when the key is in the ignition and the truck is running?
I got an '04, not sure build date, but you can't lock the doors while running engine and gear in Park. it will automatically unlock...on powerlock models only of course. But, I can get out, shut the door, and keypad lock it just fine...factory keypad, not dealer added...
When I am out of the vehicle I have always been able to lock the truck doors with the key in the inition, regardless if the engine was running or not. I had the harness wiring and the O5E15 recalls performed. Manually locking the doors with the key in the inition
and using key pad to gain access still works flawless.
The recall seems to help the turbo lag which was a very slight problem when the truck was first started. The engine may be a little louder but then I don't hear as well as I once could.
As far as fuel mileage the school is still out. Prior to the relash I was getting 17.5 mpg to 18.5 mpg on the highway running 2100 rpms and 16 mpg in town.

Have you tried holding the handle open when you shut your door?
Boy, after reading this I ran out side with two sets of keys. I started the truck and locked the door with the key pad. Used the key pad to unlock it and it worked. Locked the door with the inside lock button, closed the door and it stayed locked. Unlocked it with the key pad. Build date 3/04. So far I like this flash. Good throttle response. Idle might be a little loud.
Keeseter CO, I ran the "Bill Jordan Test" this morning - same results. I also tried using the remote and the door unlocked again. Did you ever load software into a computer and have something go wrong because a file that is part of the download was missing or became corrupted? Anyhow, that's how my diesel tech explained it to me and maybe that's what happened to you. Maybe your service manager would be amenable to a reflash. Manys a time that I have had to uninstall and then reinstall of piece of software to fix a glitch - just a thought. Like Bill, I feel like I am getting better throttle response after this recall. We'll see how the "newer" EGR holds up over the long run.. The jury is still out on miles per gallon because I want to run it down to a 30 gallon fill up plus 8 oz. of stanadyne, of course. Sorry for your aggravation.

NO, I sure haven't. This weekend I was going to dink with it, see how it works if at all. Too handy in teh winter time for me to just give up. I'll definitely try that.

Dang . . . . maybe it's me . . . . I'll still give it a whirl.
I think I'm going to keep my stock flash as long as I can. I was messing around with the quiet idle in the Taco Bell line the other day and I really really like it.
Sent my 20000 mile sample into Blackstone last week, if it comes back with a bunch of diesel in the oil I'll sure change my tune (pun intended).
