Introduce Ourselves!
My name is Rhonda, from np/fairbanks. I'm new to the FTE world... Have come into a 65f100... plans to slowly but surely put it back up on the road... significanat other and I do lots of fishing during the summer, anywhere north or south of Fairbanks/NP, as well as other family related outdoor activities... we're working on getting little ones involved with the fishing as you can see from the pic :-)
Hopefully there are some people out there who know where to get GOOD parts for this truck of mine? Any advice, ideas, etc are more than welcome!
Nice to know there are friendly ford folks in the area!!!

I've got a 66 F100 Shortbed I picked up a couple of months ago and have started doing a little mechanical maintenance on before I tear into it for the major body restore. Just today I picked up a 67 F100.
My son is born and raised in FBKS so I will ask him to talk to his friends up there and see what he can find? I'll keep you informed if anything comes up.
The 64, 65, and 66 are pretty much identical body wise. The grills/blinkers are different and of course the 65 is the start of the twin Ibeam front suspension. My 66 has a 300 six with a 4 speed and the 67 is a 352 (I think) and has been converted to an automatic.

I was told yesterday that it had a 189 straight 6... But I believe that was bad info... From what I've read, I've found it will be either a 240 or a 300 for that year/model... Am I incorrect in my assumption? It is (or was, not sure if the tranny is shot) a 4 speed... Is there a way to easily tell what size engine without actually tearing into it?
Thanks for all info!
I'm not a pro but the few, 240 and 300 ci engines I have worked on, it is nearly impossible to discern the two by an external visual inspection. The only way I know is the crank and rods. They have different strokes. I think the 240 has a 3.18 inch stroke and the 300 has a 3.98 stroke? I'm sure there are other characteristics that makes them different but thats the quickest way I know to ID them. Some of the resident Guru's on this site can give you more info I'm sure. There's a lot of smart people on this site. As far as the 4 speed, talk to Youngs Gear there in Fbks. There is someplace on this site a page that has the casting #'s for Ford six cylinder engines, but I forgot how I got to it! Do a little sufing and you'll find it!

Anyway, I'm in Fairbanks AK, wantin' someone to go muddin or racin' with, but if we race, be warned....... I'M SLOW! lol
I'm learning things about my truck as I fix it up. She's an old abused plow truck from a company I used to work for. Boss sold her to me for 750 bucks.. So far I've fixed the Main line to my Power Steering (the pump is next!), changed all the spark plugs, tranny fluid, oil change (the first one for her! Eek!), switched all the tires (she had 2BFG all teraines, a Firestone Snow tire, and no idea what the other one was.. but all were bald..) and now she has 4 Cooper Snow tires, with 4 Cooper mud tires waitin for spring.. changed the Front Inner Axle after snapping it myself, all 3 U-joints, added fog lights to my rack, got my tailgate taken off (couldn't open it, they broked it somehow), and am about to replace my EGR valve. I'm sure there's a lot more to do to her, but for now she's running alright.
My next big project is to look up ways to get more speed outta her..or at least more gas milage
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Spent 20 years in good old Fairbanks. I still get up there a couple of times a year. Sounds like you got a good deal on your F-250!! I know personally the hardships on vehicles in the North. You might have 125k on the speedo but you can have another 100k with the idle time! While your changing out the EGR I would suggest the following parts be changed out at the same time.
1. Egr Pressure Feedback Sensor
2. Exhaust Air Check Valve
3. Oxygen Sensors
These components work in unison controlling the fuel. All together (less labor) these parts are under $250 dollars at Shucks (I tend to stay away from NAPA products if possible). Anyhow, get these parts installed and then go for a complete exhaust system, including a new Catalytic Converter (idling at 40 below is a Cat Killer.) These small blocks need to breath! I use Flowmater exhaust parts but there are a lot of good manufacturers out there. Everyone has a different opinion on exhaust. These upgrades should improve your performance and mileage. After that start thinking PCM chip programing? That will improve the performance even more but remember you need to have all the control components of the truck working properly before you chip it. That will guarentee the chip can do what it is designed to do. Hope I didn't ramble too much.
Although different (carburated / no smog), my rig is a 351W/c4 in a 1967 F-100 2wd, basically the same engine. Hope to catch up to you in SquareBanks and have that race.Tim
And the race would be awsome! It never seems like ol' beaters like mine wanna race, so I get stuck making a fool outta myself with these newer 150's and such. Never win, but hey, when your fun is going over the speedlimit, who cares? ^__^
