New flash

I just called the diesel tech where I get my truck serviced. The last flash I had was the Dec 03 3U7A-12A650-FTC. Mine is an early 03. They say there is a new flash available but not for all 6.0s. Some trucks it will update and some not. The diesel tech couldn't tell me which ones. I asked what it is supposed to fix. He said he thought it was supposed to fix some surge or hesitation problems while towing but wasn't sure.

Katoum's posts and a message from Bob got me looking into this.

Does anybody else have any more info on this? PSD 60L Fx4 how about you?

I had my truck reflash on 11/27/04 it was a new flash only a week old . My truck had rough idle, white smoke on start ups ,idle surges and some bucking. It made my truck perfect I can't stop driving it starts easier runs smother but does have a little more noise but I'am ok with that. My truck is a 03.

I just got the latest 03 flash 3U7A-12A650-FTE for my 03. It is supposed to fix hesitation at low rpm and tow/haul mode improvements.

So far it seems to run like it did when I bought it less the pilot injection. Acceleration is good. It shoves you back in the seat when hitting the on ramp.

Too early to tell on the mileage.

I haven't tried reloading the Predator yet. I want to see what the mileage does first.

I can't confirm it but I read somewhere that there is a recent flash out for the 04. Call your service department and ask to speak directly to the diesel tech.

My 04/04 truck was just flashed with 4U7A-12A650-BGC. Don't know if this is old or new, but that is what the sticker says in the engine compartment. Seems to have less turbo spool up time from a dead stop.

I might post something when I find out more about this flash...so far, since it was posted, I haven't even been to work, so I don't know anything about it yet

SBV, keep us posted on how it does...

Overall, does it seem to be an improvement?

It seems to be a definite improvement. Remember, I bought mine in August 03. It had pilot injection and would push you back into the seat getting on the on ramp. I had a very minor problem with a surging romp at very low rpm/speed, like going 3-5 mph through a parking lot. Not knowing any better, I mentioned it at service and they flashed it for me. Big mistake. I have been chasing Ford for a fix. They promised what I expect is this flash back in first quarter 04. But yes, the acceleration is much better. Everything is fine except pilot injection is still gone. I don't suppose I will ever see or hear it again with this truck. Everything else reminds me of the truck I bought. We'll see about the mileage. I haven't put but about 50 miles or less since it was flashed with the latest which is 3U7A-12A650-FTC for my 03 6.0L PSD with Torqushift non-California truck.

Got mine flashed 9/24/04 and that was supposed to fix the turbo lag I was experiencing. WELL, it did. BUT.... it caused something I have been a bit curious about, when I first start the truck in the morning, 75 degrees or 40 like this morning, it smokes quite a bit (black raw diesel). It NEVER did this until this last flash. Also, the exhaust smell is much more pungent at all temps and engine speeds. I do have better acceleration and smoother running, so is this just more fueling or do I need to take it back and try again? Has there been another program released since the end of Sept.??? Thanks for any advise as always guys, Mat

I have an 04 f-250 PSD and I had my truck reflashed on September 8th. Like everyone said, big mistake. I lost a ton of power, and my fuel economy went from around 17-19 to 12-13. I contacted my dealership service dept. today to see if there was a new program out. He said that a new program was released on Oct. 5th, he said it is suposed to be an improvement. I am getting mine in there on Monday I will let you all know if it is any better.

SBV, it's an 04, build date 12/03 technically. I am south of Ft. Worth about 15 miles, travel to Arlington every day for work.
ZUKE, I am anxiously awaiting your answer as I will be there ASAP if it helps, I also noticed a small mileage drop, but nothing compared to what you have seen. Only about .5 MPG and I thought for a while I was just driving harder, but I have concentrated on Lead Foot Control for the last two weeks and it didn't help.

Does the new flash give a check light with the EGR unpluged? How about tow/haul mode?

I wonder if it is applicable to a late 02/03 build? I would like to get back to the power level of the stock truck. Then when adding the SCMT on top of that it will probably run extra well.
