I run 42's on mine and it idles like it did with the 30's and Lightning MA Conversion, and better than it did with the 19's and Speed Density,....even with the SC'er. It's all about the tune.

Lindsay, I'm told it (SCT) will work on all Ford EEC IV & V vehicles, Auto or Man., electronic or not. The only other software that I know of that will work with that kit is the Tweecer...it's roughly half the price but it also has alot less control over the engine and trans, and a bit more difficult to use. And the old EEC Tuners as well.

What kind of programmer....is it a hand-held type?

that explorer cam is a good grind i have the specs. lobe center 116*, Intake 256* .422lift exhaust is 266* .448. the Only cam i found much better is the Crane Cam built for this application. it made better low end torque. the explorer cam in my 93 5.0 with headers and stock heads made about 250h.p@4500rpms and held over 340 ft.lbs of torque from 2000-3500 rpms on the desktop dyno 2000 ver.3.1

Looks like a good grind but not too aggressive. I prefer higher lift, a bit more duration (closer say to 280) and centers a little closer together (112 or so) to give a much broader torque curve that wont die at such low rpms. The FMS E303 cam looks nice without being too wild and puts the peak HP around 3K and lets the engine breath a bit better and being better at highway speeds.

If you would, try the E303 cam on the same motor with you software, I would be interested to see what the numbers are. The cam specs are as follows:

Ford V8, 302 H.O., (1985-94) Roller Lifter
(.50 duration intake/exh)220 220
(sae duration intake/exh)283 283
(cam lift in/exh).311 .311
(gross lift in/exh).498 .498
(lobe centers in/exh)110 110
Valve Event Timing @ .050" Lift
intake open 0 TDC
intake close 40 ABC
exhaust open 40 BBC
exhaust close 0 TDC

thanks

Bdd

I don't want to flood my currently stock configuration with those huge firehose of fuel injectors. Can I still use my 19 injectors until my engine has the capacity to handle larger injectors?

I dont understand the question but I will attempt to answer it.

You can use the 19lb injectors up to 310HP.. 24lb goes up to about 390.

If you get the lightning kit, use the injectors that come with the kit. Everything is calibrated and set up for those 30 lb injectors, so if you were to run stock 19's, it would run terribly lean. The injectors will only inject the amount of fuel needed.

the mass air meter has to be set for a specific size. 30#injectors w/30#meter. 19/19. so no you cannot use 19 w/the kit unless you want to spend a couple hundred bucks for a 19# air meter.
the Ecam is nice. but i just put an F in. much better. 288 int/exa .512" lift int/exa.
the air box pic is in my gallery

Are you running an F with auto trans? Figured F would be a bit stiff for a basically stock AOD trans w/stock converter.

I was thinking that he was asking if he can just bump up some mods without the kit and use larger injectors. I was just giving the theoretical HP limitations of the stock injectors. You are perfectly right about the MAF meter though. It does need to be calibrated for whatever injectors you are running. If you stick with SD (speed air density) and just want to upgrade cam/injectors, you will need to have someone program the computer to facilitate the new stuff.

Hmmm...it looks like your truck has a completely different upper intake manifold design. I think I'd have to do some rigging to make the lightning kit fit in there. How much is Ford Racing charging for the lightning kit? About the same as the 302 AOD kits?

The Lighting kit (brand new from Ford Racing) is $950....But you get a calibrated air meter (for 30's) 30lb injectors, AKC0 PCM, air box and even an air filter, and a complete wiring harness.

If you don't plan on boosting it then that kit will work very well on a N/A application. Also, the TFS Stage 1 cam is noted to produce noticable gains over the E and F cams.....again, it depends on your application though.

TFS? could you point me in the right direction for that? I am looking for something that gives me a nice torque curve through the upper middle rpms (around 3K), for most of my use is on the highway.

Thanks

yes i installed a mustang intake backwards{lightning} but i had the stock intake on w/the lightning kit. the only thing you need is the hose & y-adapter from a mass air truck. it is a straight shot to your intake still. mine got thrown out.

Oh cool! Thanks Lindsay. I appreciate the info and advice. Now my truck is as good as MAF Converted. This saves me so much trouble.
