I was wanting a mass airflow conversion made by Ford Motorsports. But it's only for 1987-93 trucks with a manual transmission or 1987-90 trucks with a AOD transmission. They don't make it for 1993 trucks with a E40D? I sure hope they do. Do any of you know if they make any? I called Jegs about that and they said they can't find any for my truck. Only for 1987-93 trucks with AOD.
Since you have the E4OD, you'll have to be a little more creative. It can be done, but it will be a custom wiring job that you'll have to do. It's not too difficult, I did a custom MAF swap on my '87. For the E4OD, there are a couple options for which computer to run - there is one or two from a 94-95 mustang for electronic auto's, and I think there are a couple mass air F150's from 94 or 95 with the E4OD. You'd have to get a new computer, and add some wires to the harness, plus move a couple that are already there. http://brembs.net/cars/maf_conversion/ this website will give you an idea of what all is involved electronically - you don't have to do the custom intake work that he did - even though that truck is a manual transmission, it still should be helpful in showing you what all is involved.
Does this mean the Ford Racing MAF Conversion kit won't work on my truck? And did they put the AOD transmission in 1993 trucks? Or was it only E40D transmissions?
Yeah. It sucks when they seem to make one important product for every other truck except yours. There's one for the mnual ones, the AOD ones, the Lightnings with E40D's but nothing for the F-150's with E40D's. The Jeg's representative kept asking me if I had a lightning and said he never heard of my truck. I guess a 5.0 with a E40D isn't common. And a bunch of people on a Yahoo car chat kept telling me the E40D is a HD truck transmission. A transmission that belongs behind big block motors.
Hey, I can't reach the "EPNCS..." guy- still too new here, and I'd like to ask him about the link mentioned earlier in this thread. Can you get this link to work:
It doesn't work for me, but I'd like to see what he is talking about. If it works for you, cool, I'll just have figure something else out. If it doesn't work for you, could you please email him to get ahold of me or post a reply here?
I found this interesting system made by Venom called the Venom 400 control module. This module is connected to the vehicle's sensors and increase engine performance by monitoring the sensors output characteristics and modifying the input to the existing vehicles computer. I'm wondering if this unit could help Speed Density truck owners everywhere by leting them put on a performance cam or heads without having to worry about the computer saying there's a problem. http://www.coximport.com/store/V49-189
That link worked for me. A member of FTE made that site when he did his mass air swap. You don't have to have a kit to convert to mass air. I'm pretty sure that there were mass air F150's in '94 and '95 with a V8 and the E4OD. If you could find one (you'd have to be lucky) you could get all the parts off of it to run on your truck. If not, you could get a computer either from a 94 or 95 mustang GT with an electronic automatic, or a '94 or 95 V8 F150 with the E4OD and change/add to your truck wiring at the computer connector to match the inputs/outputs of the new mass air computer. You'd also have to add the mass air related parts (mass air meter, intake hoses, injector wiring).
You can also contact ChipMaster, they will burn computer chips to modify your speed density computer settings for modifications. The only thing is that you'd have to do you modifications and have the computer chip made..and not change anything else unless you got another chip.
Interesting idea. Perhaps I could find a wrecked/totalled '94 or '95 F150, 351, etc, and swap all the parts to mine. Hmmmm.... I'd probably have to replace all the sensors, and depending upon the condition of the donor vehicle, replace the wiring, hoses, etc.

All you'd need would be the wiring harness for the injectors and the mass air meter & its hookup wires, the intake 'y' pipe, and maybe one or two other things. All the sensors on your truck can be re-used, including the MAP sensor, although you will unplug the vacuum line to it.
As MustangGT said, you don't necessarily have to convert to mass air to be able to upgrade your engine. It is more flexible for sure, but there's nothing wrong with running a chip with speed density - it will do just fine too.
I've been interested in purchasing that 5.0 long block from Ford Racing with the GT-40 aluminum heads and the 4 bolt main caps. With a set of headers and a good intake manifold the 5.0 can put out up to 380 horsepower. That would definitely require a burned chip right?
