Hmmm....the 351 is very tempting. I hear it has a wider upper and lower intake manifold and fuel rail. And the EGR is located in a different spot. Other than that what other problems would I run into? And up until now I figured the 347 would be good because it's only four cubic inches smaller than a 351 but the 428 sounds nice. Very nice. Do you know of a kit for a 428 that's similar to the 347 kit sold in Jegs? By the way what did you mean by loosening my engine?

If you were going to do the 351 thing, I would get an engine that has everything so you wont have to worry about the accessories. You will need intake and exhaust manifolds, fuel rail and several other things.
Check out this cold air kit. It's for 1994 and later 5.0/5.8 trucks with MAF. I'm hoping this will save me the trouble of having to fabricate a air intake tube. The 80mm Ford Racing MAF sensor is pretty large. Could it be too big for this cold air kit's tube?
I suppose that will work if you want to shell out the 250.00. they have the same thing on ebay for 60.00. Type in "f150 air" (minus quotes) and you will find some cool stuff on the cheap.
Edelbrock makes a cam shaft and lifters for the 351. Is that a better or worse product than the Crane Cam's speed density friendly cam? I remember seeing in another thread that the 351w is similar enough to the 302 that they can fit.

ok lets see if i have this straight? the lightning kit will work on my f-250 460 e4od truck correct? what is the lightning firing order? this is really my only concern. i only get 7 miles to the gallon now so any improvement i can get is worth it. at a $1000 dollars it really wouldnt take me long for it to pay for itself. i fcommute this truck 100 miles a day. it does seem to lack throttle response and alittleoompf at highway speeds.
thanks fot the awesome thread and all the grat info.
Lightning firing order is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8, which is not the same as the 460. It can be re-wired though to work with the 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 order. The intake hose from the lightning kit will not work with the 460, and since the 460 never got MAF from the factory, you will likely have to make something to split the hose for the two inlet throttle body.
The lightning doesnt have a 2 hose throttle body it has a single horizontal oval one. Rewiring the computer harness is easy (had to do it on my vehicle to change from a truck 5.0 to a 5.0HO firing order) just takes changing some pins around.
The first gen lightnings had a circular throttle body with only one butterfly valve. That's what the kit is made to fit, so it'll be a custom job to make something to work with the dual throttle body on the 460.
