I looked at a picture of theFord Racing EFI MAF conversion kit and it seems to come with it's own wiring harness. Is this suppost to replace the entire underhood engine wiring harness?
yes, it does replace the whole wiring harness (computer side). The kit comes complete with computer mass air flow sensors and all wiring.. only unfortunate part is that the parts arent available seperately e.g. the wiring harness to make it cheaper. After all how many of us use the stock mas?
That is convenient for me. I just take out my old computer harness and slap in the Ford Racing EFI kit and use the Baumannator Transmission ECU to control my E40D after a little wiring.
TRUCK KIT INCLUDES:
• EEC-IV mass air processor module assembly
• EEC-IV jumper wire harness with SEFI engine overlay
• Mass airflow sensor with air box lid, hoses and clamps to adapt to the truck air induction system
• Easy-to-follow instructions
dalmation Is this suppost to replace the entire underhood engine wiring harness?
the jumper harness has the 8 fuel injector wires on it & the mass air sensor & air temp sender for the air box.
why are you going to use 2 comps when the ford one will run your tranny?
"why are you going to use 2 comps when the ford one will run your tranny?"
because unless I am mistaken, the computer does not run the A40D tranny unless you use the lighning kit which has its own set of stuff for it and wont work (computer fires injectors 2X per engine cycle, etc...)..
Yeah. My truck has a E40D transmission and it isn't a lightning model. Okay so the kit says it's for AOD only. Would I be better off buying the kit for manual transmissions since I'd have my transmission controlled by a saparate computer? I would've searched on the ford Racing website but I keep clicking on the online catalog and nothing happens. It's like the site doesn't work for me.

both will work though I read that you may want to go to with the auto computer since I have heard a bit of drivability problems using the a9l computer with an auto (dies when going into gear because of the lower rpm settings) which doesnt happen with the automatic version A9P.
If you are going to go through this, why not just buld your own harness and save a load of money? They want like 800.00 for this part when you could build one for like less than 200 (computer on ebay about 100, harness, 50 for stock mass air sensor, and about 50 for misc stuff like extra pins and stuff for wiring the SEFI). I have not done it.. yet... I will be doing it within the next week or so.. and will post the results along with all the commentary, pics to go along with it. Mine is modifying an 88 bronco to use Mass Air if that will be any help to you.
Well given how rare 94-96 truck parts are....I think I'd rather go straight foward and go with the Ford Racing kit. And there are some sites where it's well over $100 cheaper than what the price in Jegs is. Out of curiosity, how many wires are we talking about when wiring the E40D to the Baumannator? I still want to be able to use the button on my column shifter to activate or deactivate my overdrive. From the looks of things it won't be easy wiring it from the stock ECU to the Baumannator.
I also have a 92 F150 with E4OD. I was wondering how the ecm controls the transmission. Im planning on using a mustang computer and harness for mass air but Im not sure how I can make it all work together.
nothing changes w/your tranny you can still use the overdrive button. it is a simple kit. theres no modifying & hoping you got the wires right. you unplug the wires from your fuel injector plugs the new ones in,swap airboxes & switch comps. it took me @ 1.5-2 hours to install it. M-900-L58 i used it on a 94 f-150. it does not matter if you do or dont have a lightning. the only thing that you will need to do is get the y-adapter for the throttle body & straight hose. i looked at all the kits & went w/the lightning becuase i figured it would be more of a "race" type. it was well worth the money. i also talked to ford & they said it will also run the AODE. so no matter what tranny you have you can use this one computer.
The AODE is just another electronic transmission, like the E4OD. It won't work properly with a non electronic automatic or a manual - it will throw codes all day long.
what exactly is the benefit of MAF over the speed density? i'm just now starting to get into really modifying my engine and thinking about putting a cam in it.
MAF measures air directly with a sensor in the air stream. The speed density system infers the amount of air based on manifold vacuum (MAP sensor is the dominant sensor), throttle position, and air temperature. This direct measurement allows the computer to see and compensate for changes in the airflow characteristics of the engine, such as what would result from a cam swap. Another benefit is that MAF systems are also SEFI (sequential injection) where the trucks are batch fire, firing 4 injectors at a time.
