He was a phenomenal shot with anything that he put in his hands. He grew up during the Depression and his father would give each of the boys 2 shotgun shells when they went hunting. If they used both shells, they had better bring home two dead animals.
As a game warden, they were licensed to carry, but they had to qualify at a police range. My dad had an old 3 1/2" barreled S&W .38 revolver that he took with him on duty. When he went to requalify, they first shot 10 warm up rounds. After his warm-up shots, the instructor came over to him, scoped his target then asked if he shot that pattern with his old S&W pistol. My dad said "yes", a little surprised. The instructor took his form, signed it and said he could go home, he didn't need to shoot any more.
The cop standing next to him with matching competition pistols in a handcrafted hardcase just looked in amazement as my dad put his revolver back in his raggedy holster and left.
Its impressive to see someone who can realy shoot. Most say they can, but we all know that to be false. As for peta, well what a bunch of wackos. Don't know if I would pay a Texan for a deer either, unless it was one heck of a deer. Wow that was along thread to read.
Wow, a long post. Most of what I could say about PETA has already been said. I am against PETA, ELF, HSUS, and any other group that holds the beliefs that these groups use, and the tactics taken up by them. I wrote an article for an English class at school last semester about PETA, and Animal Extremists. If anyone would like some short reading about PETA, and their horrendus campaigns targeted at children, I can post the short essay.
I like animals and all, but PETA just freaks me out. Seeing as how we are basically animals that can reason, I don't understand why we shouldn't eat meat - animals eat animals. We're animals. We eat animals.
What's the deal?
I definitely agree that no animal should be abused. Even livestock which are raised to be slaughtered should be treated properly. This I agree with. But the borderline terrorist actions by PETA are unacceptable, IMO.
Well PETA makes little impact around here. They terrorize ranchers and guiding services (nothing like Texas, we banned that a few years ago).
They can be found walking along the banks of our rivers terrorizing fisherman. For some reason, they don't pick on hunters. Its legal to shoot someone for trespassing here. Maybe they have caught on.
I am with you Waxy on the penned deer hunting. I haven't ever agreed with that. I usually try to keep my opinion to myself on the subject though.
As far as PETA goes, most of their members are misinformed. As long as they aren't armed, I have little to worry about. They don't have any impact on the beef market.
I can't say that PETA is wrong, its another persons point of view, and as long as its rational I am willing to listen. The experience that I have had is that they are spreading total propaganda, and are at the very least warping minds of young children.
I would much rather get into an arguement over gun rights though.
Yes, I hunt and fish, backpack and hike into the wilderness, and I teach Hunter Safety Education classes here in MT, we teach our young hunters that if thye encounter a protester, to simply leave the area, and not to argue with them. This leads to fewer shootings, I'm sure.

I'm sure you will agree, animal testing, nor deer hunting, does not compare to the pain inflicted at the GREAT AMERICAN HILL CLIMB!!! See you in the last week of July!!!!
