EZ Wire - Questions

I bought an EZ Wire kit to rewire my truck.
1950 F1
Replaced V8 from 6
Negative Ground.
Original Generator

I am really just learning. The EZ kit comes with 2 wires
1. ALT EXCITOR
2. ALT POWER

Am I correct that those would be needed in my current setup?

Question: The REGULATOR should have a wire that connects to the battery, correct?
I attached a picture of the old wiring setup of the GENERATOR to the REGULATOR.
The black wire with blue tape goes inside the cab to a gauge.

Would it be in my best interest to buy a new alternator and install that?

The three terminals on the regulator are ARM, FLD, BAT.

There are also three terminals on the generator, GND, FLD, ARM.

You should be able to use your two ALT wires to connect ARM to ARM and FLD to FLD.

BAT goes to the battery (possibly indirectly from a terminal under the dash), and GND goes to Ground (looks to be on one of the regulators mounting screws in your picture)

No need to install an Alternator just because of some labels on a "universal" wiring kit.

Thank you for the reply.

So I could keep the current wire setup and cut or cap and wrap the two wires from the fuse panel, correct?

I will certainly replace all the old wires, just trying to figure out how everything connects.

Thank you again.

A couple of questions to make sure we're not in any trouble. You said you're using the original generator, which would be 6 volt, and typically positive ground. Have you upgraded to 12 volt negative ground and using a 12 volt generator? Your ez wire harness will be made for 12 volts, the wires aren't heavy enough to handle the increased amperage of a 6 volt system. If you're trying to pump 6 volts through your new wires you're going to have issues, and something will need to change.

Thank you. When I bought the truck, it was on the road as late as 2015, according to the registration sticker. What I should have written was that the generator is a period generator, not a new alternator. I would "assume" it is a 12V generator, how do I check?

Easiest way is to look at the battery...if it's a 6v battery, your generator should be 6v. If it's truly a "period" generator, then it will be 6v.

Why would you assume it is a 12V generator?

A closer look at the generator tag would likely tell:

I read 12V 2874. Looks to be a Wilson sticker.

Very easy to have someone less informed put the wrong battery in the wrong way and thus alone not a reliable way to determine much of anything.

Good to know its 12 volts. Another clue is someone added a ballast resistor to the ignition wiring. Its just to the left of your Voltage Regulator. If it was 6 volts they wouldnt be using one.
So next question, is the battery ground to the frame/motor + or - ?
Does the truck run? Does the charging system work?

The truck is negative ground to motor. I am working on getting the truck running. The person who is helping me won't be able to come and help until Spring. He suggested that I re-wire the truck until than. I was not able to get it started last winter. Here is my original threads on the truck.
