rtcherry,, I hope you're still out there. Or some one with the answer.
In an earlier post you said that "... remove the upper C-pillar plastic panel, and then separate the lower portion away from the C-pillar, ..... the plastic pieces are a little tricky to get back into place without breaking any of the fasteners."
This is what I want to avoid. How do I remove that plastic panel?
Anyone?
thanks

Ok I Hate To Be A Pain And I Don't Have The Time To Read All Of The Replys. I Have An 02 Explorer. I Located The Box On The Right C Pillar, But Now I Need To Figure Out What Numbers Will Work With The Key Pay. Which Numbers Are The One For The Master Code? Are They On The Same Sticker With The Part Number Or Is It In Different Spot On The Box. Any Info Would Be Great Before I End Up Taking It To The Dealer And Get Charged An Arm And A Leg For A 5 Minute Job.
Thanks
i have a 2001 explorer sport trac. manual says it is on the computer module. is it located in the rear tire well on this model. my friend has an explorer and she found it in compartment behind rear seat
Thanks for the info. I know where it is, I just don't know how to get to it.
I've pulled on the panel and can see some clips, but not well enough to know how to remove them without breaking them. I know there is probably some easy trick. Do you know it Sunshineblonde?
Thanks
Mat
Hi all,
I looked on the "C" pillar too, there were a set of numbers located there, i tried different combinations of those numbers, also the computer box too, wasn't able to get the combination needed after a day of attempes with the time it takes to reset too. so i gave up. some months later my over drive took a dump and the 4X4 solinoid behind the glove box died after i replaced my battery. I found that i could get the solinoid that shifted the transfer case online for less, but the Dealership would have had to program the thing anyway, so i took it to the dealer for a rear hatch (the window hinges) for a recall replacement on those and said while it's here can you look at the OD tranny and see if the 4x4 solinoid has gone out, anyway while the tech had the computer plugged up, I walked to the service manager and mentioned that i never got the door codes from the previous owner, he said no problem, and told the tech to get the codes too, he pushed a few buttons and wrote it down for me, i asked if there would be an additional charge for that? he said no, he already had to plug up the computer so no problem, otherwise there would have been a charge. i suppose i wrote all that to say that maybe you can catch a break if you're already having to take the truck in for something else... and the over drive light is flashing again, have to stop then restart the truck to reset the overdrive problem...ugg... nice fleet.ford link.... thanks for the info!
158000 miles and still going....
The 5-digit code you need is attached to a module that sits on top of the left-rear wheel well. You access it by removing the cover in the cargo area for the jack/ washer fluid bottle. Using a flashlight and a mirror, look towards the front of your vehicle- you're looking for a light-colored box a little bigger than a pack of cigarettes. There's a sticker on the side of the box, facing the interior. It would really help if you had someone pull out on the plastic panel a little at this point. There will be several numbers on the module, but the 5-digit one you're looking for will be in large, bold-faced type. This is the PERMANENT code that works everything,......
thanks i looked and dang, i don't think i saw this post, maybe i was blind... oh well, there it was, just like the post said, anyway good that you saved some $$

to save others some headaches and confusion, you can take your vehicle to the dealer and ask them to pull the code. It only takes five minutes and they dont have to pull any panels or break any clips. All we do is hook up our laptop with our private ford software and get the code. your local dealership should do this for free. you can ask them to change the code to your code and still will retain the factory code incase you forget yours.
I have found the original master code with no problem. When I start entering the code the buttons light up and the interior light comes on. Also, when I click on the last two buttons to the right the doors lock. BUT when I initially enter the master code it does NOT unlock.
Here is some background.......
We just had to replace the lock assembly, and will be replacing the rod from the tumbler to the latch which is cirrently missing. So someone seriously messed with the innards of that door. But the key pad will lock the doors, but won't unlock them. There was one other post with the same problem and no one responded. I hope that someone else has had this problem and can point me in the right direction.
ok I've looked high and low for my code. I've pulled the defrost panel off and climbed on my hood, I've pulled the glove compartment way out, I've pulled the trim by the rear center window and around the passenger side door, I've looked in the compartment where my jack is, i've looked under the driver side dash and I can't find this stupid code. I have a 2004 sport trac. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure on the STs that the Security Module is behind the Passenger Side Air Bag. Maybe you can find/read the sticker with the security code by using an inspection mirror back there. If not then you will need to remove the air bag to get to it. If you need to pull the air bag out be sure to disconnect the battery and wait for a few minutes first.
Wow gang....fantastic thread!! I went home and found my code on my company provided 2004 Explorer XLT in all of five minutes! Just another reason I tell my wife to never make fun of me for chatting in forums
So, for those that seek the holy grail of keyless entry...here is my contribution! My truck is a 2004, and based on what I read in the 10 pages before....this should be the same for 2002 to 2004.
Start by opening the rear passenger door, flipping the seat up to the rear access position, and pull off the rubber door molding.
Then where the two plastic pieces meet, raise the seat belt all the way up and wedge your hand in there and pull out on the bottom of the top piece first (there is one clip in the middle that you are popping out). Then pull at the top in the middle to dislodge the second clip up there and the top piece should be free. Let it lay on the floor with the seat belt holding it in tact
Look inside the bottom area for the "black box" looking thing with the harness connectors. Thats the one!
Now use your hand and a flashlight to pull that bottom piece of trim out from the top about 8-10", and look down at the face of the module...right in the middle for the BIG BLACK 6 NUMBERS
Presto - five minutes to find, time for a beer, and another few minutes to pop it all back together and still catch dinner with the wife
