Came back from the food giveaway at one of the local churches. No eggs this time, but a two-pound bag of chicken wings, and 24 Red Baron individual pizzas. That should last until the end of the month.
Nothing new here , just the normal Oregon weather, Rain , I’ve been to busy to complain about it but I did notice my clothes were muddy probably a little more than usual, I wanted to go fishing this morning but I don’t have the strength to go hook the boat up load everything needed , stop for fuel, get earth worms and 50 bucks worth of other fish food plus snacks to feed my entire energy system drive an hour and launch , and then head back to the dock because my short circuited brain forgot the fish food , I figured the only relaxing part was when and after I got back home and sat back in my Recliner for the rest of the day but Nope , my wife pulls out here ever lasting Scroll of Honey dues, have a great weekend Gents
I had a good time going to Reno for the rodeo last week. We went to the opening night concert, the next night for the rodeo, and saw Alabama on Friday. Along the way we went to Virginia City for beers at the Bucket of Blood Saloon. I always enjoy sitting in a 150 year old saloon listening to the fine piano work by Squeek Steele.
Interesting name.
The church is having its VBS for kids this week. 6pm until 8:15pm Monday thru Thursday. I volunteered like I always do. So, I will be out in the heat for four days in a row. And of course, the temps will be rising all the way up to 100 this week. Guess our short break is over.
Tomorrow, I get to start the ten-day waiting period to get my firearm. Interesting that it does not start when you buy the gun. If I had bought it in store it would have. The disadvantage of buying online, I guess. However, the $50 discount was only for online line orders, so I had to get it online or pay full price. My appointment is at 10:30am. I wonder how long it will take. A friend of mine from church told me yesterday that he only went to Sportsmans Warehouse once. He took a number, and despite several employees walking around doing nothing, nobody helped him, so he left and has never been back since. I have never even heard of them until I started searching for a revolver. They appear to be just as big as Turner Outdoorsman, which I have been to before. So, I will see how this experience goes and make my decision after that.
Sportsman’s has fails to keep top level workers running the store , I waited for 35 minutes while two employees were talking shop with another customer about getting into the fire department, I even made myself known a couple times with no acknowledgment, I tossed my Ammo on the counter and heading for the door , some woman come rushing up to me with a attitude , I told her 35 minutes of wait time while two were in the middle of a conversation was unacceptable, there were other customers waiting as well and they also walked away, I can’t imagine the loss they took within that time frame but I haven’t returned, I’ll go to Cabela’s in Springfield before I shop local sportsman.
Big stores have the lowest prices. Unfortunately, that means that they have the lowest paid workers, who care the least about you, the customer. That's across the board. From grocery, to hardware, to sporting goods......... Sometimes you have to buy from a small mom & pop retailer, in order to get things right.
These horror stories about Sportsmans Warehouse are not making me feel any better about my purchase. However, I will see if I have my own horror story to tell after today's encounter. I bought my last two firearms from PRK Arms in Clovis. My current one, and the one I sold to buy my current one. It is as you say a mom-and-pop store. I would have bought from them again had they given me a store card with a $400 limit. If Sportsmans does not impress me, I will pay off the credit card and cancel it. Then continue to buy from PRK Arms. I like PRK because they only sell guns and accessories. Sportsmans and Turners are sporting goods stores that sell everything related to camping, fishing, hunting etc. I am not interested in any of those activities. Just a firearm for self-defense.
First day of VBS went well yesterday. Temps maxed out at 87 which was great. Today's high will be 95, then 98 tomorrow and 100 on Thursday. Not looking forward to Thursday.
Even though Bass pro/ Cabelas have long lines , the help you get is professional and very knowledgeable in what your buying, we have some small employe owned stores here that remind me of yellow front called Bimart, I buy all my guns , ammo, fishing and clothing there , then they also have the standard can food , bread, cereal Etc without long lines .
my 9mm came with two 16load magazines which is nice because trying to load is hard when a bear is knawin on ur leg
My 9mm came with one 8 round clip, and one 7 round clip. I plan on buying speed loaders for the revolver. I don't think taurus makes any, but I have seen H&K speed loaders that work somewhat with them.
Well, I got to Sportsman's around 10am and left at noon. Customer service was awesome. I would have been out earlier, but I locked my fanny pack in the truck before taking me keys and phone out of it. I needed the phone to scan the QR code to let them know I was there. That is when I found out I didn't have it. Had to use the store phone. And the CSR had to look up the USAA Roadside assistance number because all I had on me was my wallet. When I got back to the gun department, I did have to wait about 20 minutes because I missed my appointment time of 10:30am. The process did take some time, but it was all done on an iPad. Also, there is a notice stating that starting July 1st, the governor from hell's ammo background check goes up 500% from $1 to $5. Grrr... Doesn't affect me this time as the background check for the gun is good for 30 days and my scheduled pick-up day is July 4th. Scott, the gun guy said they will probably busy that day, and I told him I am not going anywhere on the 4th as a lot of stupid people like to shoot their guns in the air that day. I'll wait until after the three-day weekend to pick it up. I'm in no hurry. I got to handle it and check the serial number. It is a lot smaller in person than it looks on their website. Should fit in the fanny pack better than the S&W.
I have a wild American plum tree. I filled a mixing bowl. That's my take. I got all the low hanging fruit. I'm not going to fall out of a tree, and break my hips, for free fruit. No fruit is that good. The birds can have whatever is left on the tree.
There’s a recall on the sig saur forgot the number already , most Leo’s carry them , well apparently the gun just goes off , been a lot of accidental shootings , also liked the hand grip of the sig , the grip was right , my S&w gave me three hand grip change outs and each one was slightly different for small to large hands plus the magazine has a pinky finger grip for extra hold , my snub nose has pack Mayer grips , all wood , they fit my hand great .
I can't afford Sig's which is why I stick to S&W. Well, I used to anyway. Now most S&W firearms are out of my range too. All the research I have done, on the Taurus I bought only had one issue with, and that was that it did nothing. it would not fire at all. This was from an 856 Defender model and was a couple years back. It was sent to Taurus and repaired. Mine is not a defender because the defender was out of stock. There is a lifetime warranty from Taurus but of course I would have to pay for shipping to get it there. I never heard of a gun just firing by itself. That should give the gun haters more ammunition to use against us. I always tell them guns don't shoot by themselves it is the mentally ill people who use them to kill people. Now I have to tell them if it is a Sig it will shoot by itself.
