"Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free"

In years past, there was a different perspective. People simply showed up. By whichever path. Mostly by boat, without any modern vetting. Surely lacking whatever documents. Some were criminals. None were deported back to Europe, Asia, or Africa. But that's history.

Most of us can agree that there needs to be immigration policy change. We just don't see eye to eye on which direction.

This is good news for farmers in California. Almost like what Reagan did? Let's hope that our agriculture and hospitality industry isn't crippled. Or I am going to work on a farm. I have been told that there is good pay on farms. Farms have to have some people that they can legally put on payroll. I could be misinformed.

Some people were denied entry at Ellis Island. It happened.

It's not fair to compare settlers from a hundred or two hundred, or in my family's case nearly 400 years ago to illegals sneaking over a border today to obtain benefits.

I think Florida has the right idea. However, I am stuck in California.

I agree. It's unfair. History wasn't fair either. Our nation's history had many unfair events. Our nation at the present is also unfair. But what do we do about it? Can't rewrite and cancel History. We may stand a chance of moving forward in a different direction. Understanding that no policy will ever be picture perfect: what can we craft that we can live with? But as with every topic of public policy, there's no middle ground. We aren't able to come to compromise, one way or the other. We have 50 States, with State's Rights, and every state has it's own policies and procedures which effect daily living. With each State interpreting The Constitution as it pleases.

Can we go back in time, and learn from History? Maybe we can. Were Ellis Island & Angel Island effective? If we tried the same thing today, can we do that better? Would it seem crazy to establish an immigration holding area where migrants can go, to seek asylum? Somewhere where they can live until they have their hearings, with humane conditions? A place where healthcare is available, along with education and job training. So they don't just come into this country without vaccinations to spread disease like measles and Covid? So that when they are cleared to be legal immigrants, they can speak English and have job skills. It could be like a military base, where it's an enclosed community, with it's own economy. The American people can benefit from whatever is produced in those communities. Agriculture, manufacturing, technology, science.......

But as someone smarter than I, pointed out to me, that what I am proposing is the Oregon State Prison model. Where inmates have to work to pay for their stay. And The State profits from the fruits of their labor.

For what it's worth, probably nothing, since it's just my opinion....... I think that Mr. Reagan was on the right track with immigration.

My perspective is biased. I have been out there, on the line, and my prejudice is from being a firsthand witness in rioting, looting, and lawlessness. I have respect for peaceful protest. But I suppose we all have different ideas when it comes to what is socially acceptable when protesting.

This Sheriff down South, has his own ideas.

Morning Tim.
Happy Saturday all.
Ordered food from Walmart. Let them deliver it in the heat while I stay home in air-conditioned comfort.

Sometimes I feel like McCain.

No wonder he lost. He couldn't lean far enough to get the votes.

I think protests only happen in a few big cities. The rest of the nation doesn't bother.
