Didn't you have one of these cut apart once? IIRC fuel flows from the outside in, the pleats capture emulsified water while the mesh screen blocks free water, all that flows out the bottom of the filter into the housing. So fuel to the engine exits out the center. Does the pump draw through the filter like the 17+? I never spent enough time studying the 2012 I had.

You're thinking of the secondary fuel filter I cut open. The water separating media is in the primary filter in the DFCM aka primary pump on the 11 to 16s, not the secondary filter we all use.

Yes, I thought you might have cracked open the primary. I only replaced the one on the 12 once and don't remember what it looked like. I did try to crack open the one from the 2019, but it was nothing more than pleated papesomething.

It looks like this... the bottom or pump cap, is screwed into the top of the pump. This filter insert gets placed inside the cap and screwed back on.
The DFCM (diesel fuel conditioning module) or pump housing:
That's the bottom of the filter housing, or "cap," with the drain and WIF sensor that screws into the top of the pump.

Not this oil change, but the next is fuel filter change time. I'll cut the primary down the top in half... if I don't forget. Getting old sucks.

No kidding, I got up to do something last night and stood there looking like Biden an idiot for a moment. Wife was so confused. She wasn't the only one, so sat back down. Still have no clue what I was going to do.

I found out the other day that if you buy something shipped from China, the tariff on it is not under the China tariffs, but from where it was manufactured. I found out too late though to purchase what I was looking at. Its a lathe made in Taiwan, only 10% tariff. It ships from Shanghei. That through me off, 145%. Nope. Also I would have to give the shipper my SS number as required by US customs. Nope No way. Too bad, it was only $917 for a brand new lathe that is sold for $8200 from a US based company. I could probably have flipped it and made $6K off of it. Red flags though, Ebay seller with no history, only one unit, and shipping from China. While the $917 is guaranteed by Ebay, the shipping is not, nor does it prevent ID theft.
Looking forward to more American companies building here on our side of the pond. Maybe we can get higher quality goods. I wonder where SPE has their stuff made, it is well machined.

Yeah EBay can definitely be sketchy at times for sure...
As to SPE, their powder coated oversized 6.7 oil cooler, IMO, is a Bullet Proof Diesel cooler because I looked into them both and they both have the same amount of "lines" or "layers" for lack of better term, in them.
But where their other machined stuff is made is a good question.

I would think at the volume they are doing it is domestic manufacturing, offshoring for small items generally only makes sense at mass market volume. There is a whole niche of various flavors of domestic contract manufacturers that do beta and initial batches of products.
