Jared, I like the fuel drain set-up you have. Can I get a parts list for that!!!! This looks like a must have.

Thank You.

The Donaldson filter you can place a clear fuel bowl ( P569758 ) on the bottom and see any water in the filter. Easy to do a visual before driving. I run this system on my 450. Filters are wrapped by my fuel tank and frame rail.

Jared if you want a shorter Fuel Filter here you go:
  • The 1R-0749 is 10.75" tall and has an outside diameter of 3.75".
  • The 1R-0750 is 7.50" tall and has an outside diameter of 3.38".

wow that is fantastic information. What truck are you running? I’m getting a 25 f250 long bed and from what I’ve seen they still stick down further than your setup. What you have fits nice and snug and depending on the filters may be recessed.

if the Donaldson are just as good I’ll get those just for the clear bowl.

many many thanks!

this caused me confusion. I don’t even have my truck yet! The build week is theoretical 4/21. This was a picture from the spe website of somebody else’s install but they all look that low.

the part is just their upgraded fuel valve.

I have a 2017 F450. With the CAT Filters I was about three inches from the bottom of my skid plate. This was with the Big Cat Filters. Even with the Donaldson filters and fuel bowl I'm three inches.

Those pictures you posted seem a bit odd. I didn't think that the CAT 1R-0749 sat that low. This is the lowest I ever seen that filter sit. Normally about three inches short of the skid plate.

The CAT 416-1225 is the same dimensions as the 1R-0749, but the UHE sub 4 micron.

I went to their website and all the 450s are nice and tucked away. I don't know if the tank size ie.. Fuel capacity is the difference. My fuel tank is 48 gallons.

If your really concerned about the filters hanging too low run the 1R0750 for the secondary filter and the 175-2949 as the water separator. Same media as the 1R0749 and 256-8753 but shorter. IIRC the 750 is circa 7 inches compared to the 9-10 of the 749, all use the same 1-14 post.

While I do like the SPE filter kit, I don't see enough benefit to warrant the cost. I think the money would be better used toward a DCR pump.

For the record all long bed 6.7 trucks get the 48 gallon tank and there is no difference between the 250 and 450 setup. The filter location is in the same mid tank location, so it should be well protected. Only the 36 gallon setup has the filter at the front of the tank and fully exposed.

I want further proof that it traps water better than the OEM filter setup before I put that kind of money, and time, in.

From Fass of all people.... the 175-2949 was 97.1% efficient off the hop at 100 GPH, dropped to 94.6% at 165 GPH

https://fassride.com/fass-fuel-filters-versus-competition/?srsltid=AfmBOorZHsm-cwJkZsKQxiT0nk4879sLewShmPh7SW0S4oYG9xn1NSv2

OEM spec is 95% but no specified flow rate

https://parts.ford.com/content/dam/f...el_Filters.pdf

Granted that is the 11-16 fuel filters, I haven't seen anything on the 17+. The Cat should out perform the OEM filter but it is only 2-4% depending on how Ford calculated the 95% for the filter.

Do they specify if it is free, emulsified, or both for that efficency rating?

Ford does not explicitly specify, IIRC (on my phone) the FASS test was emulsified water.

Yeah and Fass uses media that swells in their water separators, made for stationary fuel tank usage, that will shut down the engine due to lack of fuel flow. Not a good thing for a CP4 equipped truck. Unless that's changed but probably not...
