That Girl "cooked" lunch for me by opening a can of chicken, a can of soup, and a can of corn. I ate it.
For dinner, I made "basic white sauce", poached some chicken, and sliced fresh corn kernels off the corn cob. It gave me a chance to use the $4 chicken drumsticks and 10 for $1 corn on the cob.
Seventeen days. That is all I got out of the last repair to my scooter. Today, I tried to leave the apt on my scooter to go to church, and it did the same exact thing. It would not believe the transmission was in drive. So, I called the VA and they are going to "send someone out to evaluate it" I hope that means they will give me a new one when they find out it did the same exact thing. In the meantime, I am without a scooter. I have my truck, so I can get groceries when needed, but it will hamper my ability to do any volunteering at church until either this one is fixed, or they get me another one. I sent them a secure message asking what the timeline would be for either fixing this one or getting me a new one. I am thinking at least two weeks for the first option, and up to four weeks for the second. Of course, they may want me to come into the hospital and pick a different one. Don't know if I can do that. I can drive there, but I cannot walk the distance from the parking lot to the prosthetic's department.
If anyone sees wrenched like these, let me know. They are hard to find. This cuts the amount of wrenches in my saddlebag in half. But since they are hard to find, they are even harder to find in the sizes that you want....... which like any tool nerd, is every size. Every size is the right size for something. And I want them all.
I was just in harbor freight and seen these open end wrenches, I should have bought them but picked up a 1/2 drive extended handle ratchet and some wire brushes .
picked up a 1/2 drive extended handle ratchet and some wire brushes .
When I finally discovered extendable ratchet handles, I was sold. Suddenly, I had the leverage I needed to loosen everything that used to be too tight. I bought one in every size.
Then I learned that you could get an extendable tool with 1/4" and 3/8" drives. This is what I carry in my bike's saddle bag.
It sort of makes sense in general. If I had one of those a few decades ago, I wouldn't have a collection of 1/4" and 3/8" ratchet handles. And I have a collection which makes me ashamed. Close to a dozen, and most do not get used. Most of those came with a set of sockets. Suppose I lost a few sockets, which happens, then I have to replace them. At $5 - $8 a socket, I could buy a new set for less than the cost of 3 or 4 sockets.
I've gone through my whole life losing tools, before I could break them, and try to replace them under warranty. So I've got a surplus of not just ratchet handles, but also a ton of sockets and wrenches that I don't use. Sockets and wrenches come in sets, and I don't use every size. But I keep losing the sizes which I do use - like 3/4", 1/2", 3/8", etc. Assume that I have 1 10 mm or 1/4" socket or wrench, if I haven't lost it yet. At the same time, I have maybe 20 sockets and wrenches in sizes like 5.5 mm or 15/16".
Tool warranties only work if you can go to a store and get a new one, or the guy on the tool truck hands you a new one. Tool warranties are useless if you have to send the broken tool in, and pay for return postage on the replacement. No way am I paying $15 for UPS to send in a broken tool, and sending the tool company a check for $15 to pay for return postage.
Most people will agree that for locking pliers, Irwin Vise Grip are probably the best. I've lost them, but I've never broken one. If they are so great, why do they have to sell repair parts? As if they expect you to break them. And they know that it's a hassle to send the broken tool in. It's easier just to sell you the spring, so that you can fix it and keep working.
I have never broken a spring on any of my locking pliers. Of course, the ones I bought a year or two ago I have not used yet so that is probably why. Even the Stanley tool set has only been used once or twice. Not able to do much work on my truck, and there isn't much in the apt that I need the tools for. Beginning to look like another waste of money for me.
