So, this is the J pipe with the blue hose? Am I right?

Is it this marked part from your pic? Sorry for all the questions. Appreciate all the help on this forum.

The part in the box is part of the j pipe that allows coolant to travel from the oil cooler back to the manifold. This is used when the EGR cooler is removed. It also blocks the portion of the intake that would receive exhaust from the EGR cooler.

The stock up pipe also has a port that connects to the EGR cooler. This port will either need to be blocked, or the up pipe replaced with a deleted up pipe. Below is a pic of the flange in the passenger side up pipe that connects to the EGR cooler.

Sent this in a PM to @Baylinerchuck to confirm. Sharing here as it may be useful to others.

I am a visual person. A picture is worth a lot more than words to me. I wanted to ask if the up-pipes that you are referring to are these in the green boxes. I am still learning about these motors. I will swing by later today to check on the progress and will check to confirm. Appreciate the guidance!!

Response from @Baylinerchick
Yes, that is correct. Item 3 in the bottom diagram is the flange I was speaking of that flows exhaust through the EGR cooler to the intake. An EGR delete would require blocking off that flange. There are only 2 places I know of that will now sell the up pipe without that EGR cooler flange. Left Lane Diesels sells a single piece up pipe. SPELAB sells the 2 piece delete pipe from China. There has been a real crackdown on these emission delete parts and most places won’t sell them. Alternatively, a plate can be welded into both ends of the EGR cooler that will essentially do the same thing as the delete kits.

From this picture, I am guessing inferring that the PPO installed a proper EGR delete kit. Can someone confirm?

Yes, that is part of the 2 piece up pipe kit. It doesn’t have the EGR cooler port/ flange, so that is the proper delete.

Hi Mark, You were right about the Manufacture date and the parts incompatibility. FYI, some of the parts that I ordered for an '05 did not fit on my motor. Had to reorder new motorcraft parts from the local Ford dealer.

Tech has been out sick and hence the work is delayed. Engine is being put back together this week. He assures me that he will have it running tomorrow. Hope to get to pick up & drive the truck by Friday when I am back home. He went ahead and degreased, washed and painted the engine bay. I had them install some kilmat while its all being done. Engine parts are also getting some cleaning and painting. Also replaced the rear main seal, push rod clips, valves, oil pan gaskets and installed new cylinder head bolts (No studs).

Can't recall if it is discussed earlier or not .......................

What HPOP did you install (original or upgrade)?

Clearly from the pic it is an '04 engine!

Everything is coming together - looking good!

No change to HPOP. The OEM unit went back in along with new STC fitting and IPR.

I do not call the '03 and '04 discharge tube an "STC fitting" because that term pretty much is always used to refer to the original (failure prone) 2005 HPOP discharge fitting. This avoids confusion.

Most of us call it the HPOP discharge J-tube. So did you repair the J-Tube fitting or install a brand new J-tube?

Replaced with new discharge tube. Will try & remember the correct terminology.

Jack, I am having a new OEM Radiator installed. I'd be happy to donate my OEM radiator for your experiments once this Excursion is back on the road.

Thank you. You should be able to use the box the new one came in. And I’ll be happy to pay for whatever the shipping is and a little extra for your trouble for doing it.

I can reimburse you through PayPal friends or send you a check. We can communicate this through private messaging.

Quick update from yesterday. Truck has been reassembled and it’s running. But now there’s an oil leak from the front seal at the crank shaft. Trying to source the seal today, but it looks like it will be Monday when it might get done.

National is the company that makes the OE seal. They private label the seal to others.

Truck is back in action. Delta temps are pretty decent and within range. Engine sounds healthy. But I suspect there is a major exhaust leak. I am not building boost at the low end, and there is a severe turbo lag. I've asked the tech to redo the clamps on the up pipes and also check the bolts on the exhaust manifold. I can also hear a loud hissing noise inside the cab, but not when standing near the engine bay.

These are the Torque Pro values after a test drive. I forgot to do a log yesterday. I will turn on logging from a cold start and share later today.
