Walmart cheaps out on the oil filters, I verified that one day when I let them change the oil in our Pontiac Vibe, I was really pissed with I saw the el cheapo white box...
that will never happen again, and they will Never, Ever, get a chance to see my 7.3L
they do NOT use the same Tech to drain the oil,
to fill the oil, and to install the cheapest oil filter they have....
talk about a Lack of Continuity....
I watched them, and was pissed with the extreme extra time it took to change the oil in the Pontiac Vibe.
Dropped the truck off at the body shop today to get three things done. The rust on the passenger side dog leg at the rear wheel well, painting the hood and the upper panel above the tailgate and the front grill. Pictures coming soon….
Hello everyone. I've posted various projects of this truck after owning it for 4 years now and she has 198K on her clock. 4 years of repairs and replacing parts, I'd like to share the results so far. The interior is pretty much finished. I will. say after getting the interior in near-new condition, it has increased my excitement tremendously. As far as the outside, well that's next. There are some new, very difficult to find rubber parts. Even some new rubber for under the hood including a new OEM hood insulation pad. The very next project will be LineX on the roof color matched to the body. Enough of my gibberish and here's a few pictures...
Congratulations, she is a beauty.. Mind sharing info about the dash carpet.
Picked up Bessie from the body shop and what a difference, WOW!
As a quick recap, there was rust in the passenger side dog leg just in front of the wheel well and the inner wall liner.. Pictures are in a previous post. The hood, grill, and the upper trim on the rear hatch, where the third break light is, all was painted. You can see the before pictures in an earlier post. The clear coat was basically gone on the hood and the upper tailgate trim.
I also had my Alpine head unit repaired by Alpine here in Torrance. They said my unit needed too many little repairs so they sold me a refurbished unit with all brand new facia. That will be installed this Wednesday.
real purty now,
but you "might" want to edit this line
Thanks for the compliment John. The typo, lol... fixed!
The next item after the new (refurbished) head unit is installed is having LineX coat the area under the cowl grill where the wiper mechanism is and coating the cowl grill itself. That plastic just looks old even though it's only a couple years new. I’m also hoping that coating the cowl area will lower the engine noise in the cab a tiny bit. It’s the only area I haven’t applied any sound barrier in the entire cab, behind the dash.
I have a new OEM cowl grill set in the garage waiting but first is the recovery from this latest paint & rust repair bill.
If the RIGID Hyperspot lights weren't enough, I had a pair of RIGID Spot light cubes added today. This evening I went to dinner and on the way home stopped by a wall that I use to aim my lights and set them up. The regular spot lights are activated with the OEM fog light switch and the hyperspots are on a separate switch next to the gauge dimmer just left of the steering column. The regular spot lights put out what I would call more of a flood beam (~11 deg), but the hyperspots project a pencil like narrow beam (~6 deg). Here's what they look like now during the day followed by a couple of the back of the bumper showing the mounting. The're turned on with a switch at the bottom of the dash. The rotary **** is the dimmer for the overhead gauge pod backlights.
Would you mind sharing what grille that is? Realized today that I may have put my knee in the wrong spot when getting in the engine bay recently and I have a crack in the grille right in the middle coming out from under the hood. First replacement I thought of was your truck. Thanks in advance.

They come from fleeBay. Search for Excursion Raptor Grill.
Various small things done. I’m still unsure if my AC is operating to its maximum. Sometimes it’s blowing 40 degrees with a thermometer in the center dash vent, but when the outside temperature exceeds 90, it blows closer to 50 degrees. It was nearly 100 degrees last week one day and at that temperature it blew 60 degrees.
I would think it should blow colder and more consistent. is this normal?
Now this feature is awesome!
I added one touch window activation for all doors from the driver control. The rear quarter panels are also unfitted and combined to only one of the overhead switches. The other is non operational.

totally Normal....
the Differential between Ambient outside air, and Discharge is what is important.
25* is not bad, 30* is very good.
the HVAC in my house discharges about 59* inside when Ambient is 95-100
Humidity plays a Huge factor also, if on Outside Air, expect half of that drop.
on Recirculate, it can take 30 minutes to get the Discharge temp down to 45*
On a Long Trip, it can approach 35*, but that depends on how tight the cab of the truck is.
my '02 Excursion will never get below 48* because the door seals are wide open, I can see air gaps.
my '01 Suburban has dropped below 32* on Recirculate in 102* outside temps, in Dry Air, had not rained in months. It also has Rear Air...
the dogs shivered, so did we...
