I've got a hood to a '48(I think) pickup, it came with a bunch of parts i got for my '60. Any idea on what I could get for it? I only have a 1960 so I have no use for it. It's strait and not rusted through, just surface rust that would sand right off. Also has all the trim pieces/ford badge which appear to be in good shape.
I've seen them on eBay and Craigslist for $200-400 but they never seem to sell. I would say a nice hood should be worth $75-100. Being that is such a huge piece of sheet metal it's going to limit your market. I know board member Havi has been looking for a hood for his truck but he's in MN and shipping would be a killer. Greyhounds about the most economical way to shape unless you can find some one traveling from your part of the country to a potential buyer's location. I've picked up and delivered many big parts to different parts of the country while traveling on vacations.
well I dug it out of the garage. From all the pictures I've seen it looks exactly like a 48-50 ford truck hood and has the "Ford" badge on each side. Only thing is mine has a hood ornament on the front, little chrome find that sticks up and sweeps back a little right on the front of the hood and has a glass piece sticking up from it. On all the pics I've seen none of the 48-50 trucks have any kind of a hood ornament/trim piece.
Bob is right on the prices. I've sold hoods from $50-125 depending on condition and completeness. I've even given a hood or two away. They're not a hot item to sell unless it's an absolutely perfect hood.
The hood ornament was likely added by one of the previous owner(s) through the years. The ornament is from a car and it's not stock to the truck. I've had several hoods with ornaments and just the holes drilled out where the ornament would have been.
If you box up the hood tightly it'll be too wide to fit into the baggage storage area of the newest model Greyhound bus. I know this from experience. I sold a hood on eBay a while back and wrapped a box around it. I dropped it off at Greyhound and got a call next day that they couldn't fit it in. I had to go to Greyhound to see for myself. We ended up gently massaging it in to fit inside. I'm sure that if you ship it as is, or wrap it in somesort of a protective blanket, it'll fit.
