03 Excursion Limited - Dome Light Replacement

So, after 22 years, one of my dome bulbs finally went out. Bought Sylvania 921 pack of 2. I removed dead bulb socket, and in removing bulb from the socket, I saw the leads from the bulb (normally looped along the wedge base) had been straightened and spot soldered to the socket contacts along the side. Got the bulb out, and inserted new bulb. But the looped leads do not reach the socket contacts. I will clip, extend and re-solder leads from new bulb to socket contacts.

Curious if anyone else has seen this configuration with wedge-style bulbs. I checked the working bulb and it is setup in the same way.

IIRC,

the only time I found something like that, I just cut it out, and found a replacement socket.

So many of us have switched to an LED bulb as the heat from the incandescent just degrades the fixture.

There are also LED kits that you can purchase if the ribbon cable and plastic has degraded such as this one on Etsy.
