So, what are the differences of the 2004 hood insulation part, versus your original one? I'm thinking there may be some clearance differences between the 7.3, and the other engines as the hoods were all the same.
FYI: the part number you purchased is stall available from Ford.
Had the engine cleaned this morning and I asked to have the hood underside cleaned, no chemicals or dressing. When the detailer arrived I started the engine to show it runs. Looking under the hood after shutting her down, the upper radiator hose was collapsed, "WTF?". Did a little research and it turns out being a defective radiator cap. A quick trip to the local big brand parts house had one in 2 hrs. Then drove about 50 miles to get a LineX quote for the roof, and wow, that engine is loud without the pad. Tomorrow the Second Skin will be applied to the sheet metal then Saturday I drive another 50 miles to pick up the oem hood pad. I'm curious to see what the incremental improvement will be.
do you have the air deflector that covers the area below the hood latch? 3C3Z-8326-AA

When I started looking for a hood pad, shipping was more than the pad itself. Around me the closest was 40 miles away. I pass about 6 dealers getting there.

Picked up the new hood pad today. I see how it fits tomorrow. I don't anticipate any problems.
The underside sheetmetal of the hood is now covered with two layers of Second Skin. As I drove 40 something miles to pick up the hood pad, I noticed the cab was significantly quieter than without the aftermarket pad that was just removed. I expect the new OEM pad over the Second Skin should yield an even quieter cab. I'll se tomorrow.
Installed the radiator hood deflector and she looks really good now. Tomorrow the hood pad goes in, new ballasts for the HID headlights, and the "gasket" that goes under the from edge of the hood will go in.
I haven’t had the original in 3 or so years so I can’t say there’s no differences, however it fit right up and it made a difference as far as sound insulation.
From a naked hood to one layer of Second Skin there was a noticeable improvement. Adding the second layer was also a noticeable difference. Adding the pad , again a noticeable difference. Now everything is covered with 2-3 layers of butyl rubber including all quarter panels and roof. Next is the LineX on the roof and that should yield another level of improvement.
