Completely normal, they will have some blow by after a rebuild, on my 00 the fumes almost disappeared not to long ago and I have 16k on the mill right now, and don't worry about blow by vapor it's normal to have some even on a fresh rebuild.
On my 95 there was zero blow by fumes, but I did work the mill hard as soon as it was in the truck (towing) and on the 00 not so much, towed a big load here and there but nothing like with my 95.
Ok, thanks for letting me know. I had my neighbor come over and look at the oil and filter. He said they looked good. He is an old race car guy who flips 6.0 trucks. I am going to change the filter in another 100 miles and see what it looks like. Hopefully I can remember to post a video of the fumes after I tow a bit.
Forgot to add that in my case I always manually down shift the trans when breaking in an engine to get engine RPM high with out actual engine load. This is something I was told long time ago by my pops and some of his machine shop buddy's, and I've done on every fresh engine I've installed.
I wanted to send out an update. I had a bad fitting on the steering gear box. The truck was down while I had it rebuilt..
I was able to run it up some big hills today. I did 350 miles up and down I70 and 285. I got the egts up to 1000 and made 15 pounds of boost. The blow by seems a little less and it got 17 mpg. I plan to do another 300 miles up and down the hills before I put a trailer on it.
