I was thinking that if I tap into the wire under the power distro box, I would not have to run a wire thru the firewall at all. I did go out and check the kick panel, I can do it there as I found the wire. I AM SOOOOOOO CONFUSED!!!!
I went back and took a second look at your lights. Did you have to drill holes in the bottom of the frame to mount those or where the holes already there?
Bowcop: If you going to mount to the skid plate you have to drill the hole(s) for the lamps. If you mount outside above the flange which is above the running boards you might get away with only drilling one hole.
Hang10 did you cover or tape the relay? Wondering if moisture will affect it? One reason why I was wondering about fog lamps versus tractor lamps myself, the tractor lamps are a little more sealed. Also did you use a t connector to the wire in the kick panel? Hard for me to see in the photo. Great job from the looks in the photo. I spent the afternoon putting the light bar on the back end with the 3 red running lights.
Neither. Actually, there may have been holes there but as I recall, they are pretty big for mounting things like lights. 1/2" and up as I recall.
I used a new 3M adhesive. I think I mentioned it when I bought the lights. Stuff is supposed to stick to anything (steel is listed) in any temperature, even wet, pretty much forever. So in essence, they are kind of glued on. That stuff is very stong, I tried to get the bracket off after I attached it and let it set about 30 in. It's not going anywhere until I get a torch ot a big putty knife to cut it off.
Use whichever tap is easiest for you. Are you sure the one in the engine bay is hot and off with the dome light? If so, it doesn't make any difference which you use, your only using that as the switch. There is no better, or worse place. Whatever is easiest for you and is hot and off with the dome light.

Take care all,
Jim
No, I am going to tape it, just haven't yet. It's pretty high up, by the battery actually, I don't think it could get very wet and I don't think moisture would bother it anyway. Remember the older cars and trucks that had exposed relays in the engine area forever?
To tap my wire, I scraped off about 1/4" of insulation of the blk/blu and wraped about 1/2" of the blue (bare) around that. I then used solder tape around that, heated it until it melted, then wraped that with rubber splice tape.
Again, I don't know where I would have mounted the trailer lights. I was after something fairly easy and cheap. If I decide that I wan't to change, my wiring is already done and I would probably use the 3M adhesive again and stick the trailer lights to the frame. If I do it again though, I am going from front tire to rear, using 6 lights. Under cab and bed. For now though, I am more than happy with these. They are very bright and I like the idea of being able to aim them. I made everything plug in spade connectors, so if one breaks, I'll just unplug it and plug a new one in. I don't worry much about the moisture. They are made to sit on light bars, exposed.
Hang10: Again you did a real nice job - once I get mine put on I will find a camera and post some photos - besides the undercab lights looking at adding maybe some marker lamps at pillar from the running boards to the cab.
Take care, Jim
