This is getting expensive!
Last week was very busy between all of the good advice from the FTE Forums. I picked up (all from Ford and Riffraff Diesel);
- Body mount bushings
- Bellowed Stainless Up-pipe Kit
- Water pump OEM
- Fuel sending unit
- Dip stick repair mod
- Thermostat housing -Motorcraft RH63
- Thermostat - Motorcraft RT1201
- Transmission mount
- Power steering hydraulic lines
- High Pressure Hose
- Radiator hoses
- Cold Air Silicone Boots
- Oil Cooler Seal Kit
- High pressure injection pump- HPOP
- Oil Cooler
- Fuel tank fill hose
- Oil pan sealant Motorcraft TA-31
- Diesel engine oil
- Oil filter FL-1995A
- HPOP Line - Driver Side Head 99-03.
- HPOP Line - Passenger Side Head 99.5-03.
Work cleaning the engine and assembly started and hopefully completed today.
Hopefully it will be completed by this week. I only hope upon completion everything works as expected.
1. You wanted to replace the oil cooler seals.
2. Shop advised against replacing the seals because it hasn't leaked and your oil pressure has always been "healthy".
3. You purchased oil cooler seals and an entire oil cooler to be installed.
Didn't you originally take the Excursion in for oil leaks? Was the OEM oil cooler damaged?
Please know if I were standing at the shop talking to you about your Excursion, I would ask the same questions. Anything I post on the FTE, I am willing to say in person.

As I have been going through this exercise, considering the information shared by members and other research, I figured it is best to replace as many things as possible considering their level of access with the engine in. The oil cooler is one of those components. The original cooler is not leaking, neither are the high pressure oil lines, the water pump, thermostat, thermostat housing, etc. access to these and other components are far easier to access now than later reducing installation time enough to justify the cost.
Do you disagree with my logic or do you have any additional thoughts?
Thank you…

Not taking any sides, but if it were me, and I had the engine out, and the body off, I would be doing the same thing, replacing as much as possible while parts are still avail, but that's me, and I see rational in that, others may not.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
After a week and a half, and 250 miles no issues.
I noticed the steering feels slightly stiffer.
of course there was a bit of cleaning to be done from the work. Every function and accessory work as expected. Sure I took advantage of the opportunity to replace anything that would be expensive to replace w/ the engine in.
here”s the final list of parts replaced. The only thing left is the drivers side battery cover (part of the air intake) got lost. A new/used part is being sourced. I’m very satisfied and happy with the end result!!!

Most of the part numbers and prices are listed to hopefully help others considering a service like this. Were all the parts necessary, no but I intend to drive this truck another 15-20 years.
Thanks to those who offered constructive information.

We can find part numbers and prices but what did they charge for labor? THAT'S what most of us are wondering as a lot of us would never get "service(d)" like this.
