They have replaced the oil pump gasket and front crank case seal twice now. Total in the shop 2 and a half weeks just for that problem. First noticed in late november. I lost it for a week and a half then, now I just lost it for a week again and same problem is back not even 2 weeks later.
Any ideas on this, could it be something else wrong with the engine? I took it to a different dealer the second time around as the first seemed like a bunch of idiots.
Could be that they are not correctly diagnosing where the leak is coming from. If they think it is coming from one seal, but it is actually flowing from somewhere else, then it could be that the original problem hasn't been addressed. I bet if there was something wrong with the motor someone would have noticed, but I could be wrong.
When I first took it to my dealer, the "normal" mechanic said it looked like a rear main seal. After the service manager talked to the diesel tech they decided they would fill the motor oil with dye, clean the bottom of the truck, and let me keep the truck for a few days so the leak would continue to make it eaiser to trace the leak.
I took it back a few days later. After the diesel tech traced the leak, he told me my truck was one of the ones that was missing a gasket/seal for the oil dip stick. It only took him an hour or so to fix it and my truck hasn't lost another drop of oil since.
Have them check the oil dip stick.....I think there is TSB out on this.
FYI: everything under the truck was pretty much covered with oil...from the front fo the engine to the back, on the transmission, front drive shaft, and even the transfer case.
Doesnt that thing have a warranty. You shouldnt have to pay 100.00 if you are in the 3/36. Atleast thats what I thought. I had my 04 in when it was new like 4 times for a "rear main" leak that turned out to be higher on the engine. I had 7,000 miles on the truck and I never paid the 100.00 deductable.

I would think that you could argue with them that they either didn't fix the leak or didn't find them all the 1st or 2nd time. Have a polite discussion with the service manager. May help.
If you are still having the leak, have them check the oil pump cover itself, not just the gasket. I went through the same thing...there may even be a TSB out on this as I think the cover had to be redesigned. Mine was replaced and no more leak but the repair did cause some collatoral damage to the coolers and caused a fluid leak that had to be repaired......

I'll see what they say when I make the appointment and then ask about that.
I have had many oil leaks on my 2006 F-350 6.0L. The dealer has used dye. CAC tube was replaced. The flexible blue connectors were replaced with updated ones. They were leaking because the crankcase ventilation puts oil in the CAC tube because of emision laws. A bolt at the front of the engine that holds the ground clamp was leaking. The bolt was taken out and re-sealed. They tightened the valve cover. Then the trnasmission was pulled and they replaced the rear cover seal on the engine. That seemed to stop the bell housing "drip". But I still get one or two drops on the rear of the starter that is detected with the dye. BUT no one can figure out where it is coming from. I have a UV light, mirrors and have spent a lot of time under my truck and in the engine compartment and can't see where it might be coming from. Nothing from above - all dry. The drops of oil are at the joint where the starter is bolted on. Could it be coming out of the joint where it bolts on? If anyone know please let me know.
Thanks.
i could be wrong, but im pretty sure there is no 100.00 deductible on the 08 powerstrokes. you might double check with the serv manager at your dealer..

Unless tsatrooper is right, then I agree. Kindly point out that you happily paid the $100 deductible to fix your oil leak, and that you are still waiting for the oil leak to be fixed.
