Engine oil temp sensor high

Hey guys my truck keeps throwing a P0198 code saying oil temp sensor high. Looking at the readings using torque pro the oil temp looks fine. I clear the code and it stays off while driving but as soon I turn it off and start it back up the code reappears. Any ideas? Also if y’all notice anything else in my numbers let me know. Thanks.

When you first turn the key on after a cold soak, is the EOT approximate to the ambient temp and the ECT temp? They should all be about the same. You should prolly confirm that Vref is 5v as well. I think that sensor is on the same harness leg as the fan clutch, which is prone to getting cut or melted around the upper radiator hose and CAC tube. Not that I know anyone who's ever let that happen to their truck.

The code is a "short to power" code

Your oil temp is probably inferred and not actual. I suspect your oil sensor is bad. When either sensor goes bad (eot, ect), the pcm infers from the good sensor. Watch the video below.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply’s. I’ve had this truck about 4 months and immediately had to change the hpop, after that the truck hasn’t been giving me any issues other than that check engine light.

It was throwing that code when I first got it and replaced the sensor but the code never went away that same week I broke down and had to change the hpop.

Apparently in the process I never plugged it in good and tight. I just found that it was barely connected. I cleaned the connector and plugged it in and now no more code.

I also noticed that I seem to have more power and it shifts out a lot more smooth.

Does that code have any implications to that or just a coincidence?

Thanks again!

Congrats! But you're a long way from taking away my Bonehead crown. Not sure about the performance change, others will know better. I could imagine that, somehow, the lose connector may have been disrupting or affecting main network voltage (Vref), which would mess with all the other sensors on that harness leg and the PCM, but IDK.

Not sure if it's related or not. When my eot sensor went out on my truck, my cooling fan stayed fully engaged the entire time and make my truck feel sluggish. I believe the pcm commanded the fan on 100% just to be on the safe side and keep things cool as possible. Once I replaced the sensor, the fan went back to "normal" operation and the truck seemed to run smoother and quieter for sure. Glad you found the issue.

Yep I think that’s exactly what it was. The fan was on constantly before hand. Thank you all again.

Wow, that'd be hard to drive with a 100% fan, although I prolly feel it more in my heavier truck pulling a trailer.
