And with one end on the battery ground anode, hit the other end on any of a number of bolts around and you should get continuity. Once you see what you're reading, you can move over to your glow plugs for comparison.
That is exactly what I did. Pretty sure I have eight bad glow plugs somehow. I also found a leaky oil cooler from the cold morning startups while I was redoing my driver side block ground. Time to redo that as well...
I would reuse the coolant as long as it's not contaminated.
Awesome. Coolant is from maybe a year ago. It's ELC red rotella coolant. I don't remember if I used the nitrate free or not. I don't think I did I think I just used regular rotella red ELC. I will for sure save it and reuse it. Thanks!
Between my new turbo, glow plugs, valve cover painting, EBP delete, pedestal paint, oil cooler paint and oil cooler reseal I will have a very busy work weekend coming up soon hopefully for my truck! I'm excited!
Tristan I bought and installed these last winter. Neighbor had a hammer style crimp tool.
Those are the ones I ordered. I didn't know what size cables were on my truck so I just ordered an assortment of battery cable lugs. I bought a pack of like 280. Half of that is heat shrink but, I do a lot of work with battery cables and seem to always need cable lugs so I figured I'd go ahead and get a big pack.
I'm starting to think the plug came loose inside the valve cover.
I have a doorman gasket on the driver side which has the integrated harness in it with no connector. And a quarter underneath the tab passenger side because it came unplugged before. I dealt with that when I replaced my injectors. I would hope there wouldn't be any problem in there LOL

Practise logical troubleshooting and do not jump to conclusions. Just because the Dorman does not have a connector on the inside does not mean there is not a break in continuity there. Keep working your way in towards the glow plugs until you find the fault.
Did you try ohming all 8 gp, or just that dorman gasket side
All eight. I couldn't get a reading out of any of them.
I mean they all gave a reading but it was ridiculously high. That's why I checked the block grounds. I assumed if all eight of them had ridiculous resistance to ground there must be a problem with the ground. But I redid the block ground on the driver side, the one on the passenger side looks good, and I still want to take it apart and clean it but I didn't get around to it.
Its pretty much narrowed down. It's either gp's or harnesses under the valve cover. I should have replaced my GPS when I was doing injectors but they were all working so I didn't worry about it.
I did also check continuity from the output of the GP relay to the plug that plugs into the outside of the valve cover. Continuity was good. Only thing I can check there is to see if I'm getting enough power to the harnesses at the valve cover. I don't think I will have any issues with that. I think it's going to be inside the valve cover one way or another. I guess I won't know till I get the valve covers off

Yes sir. However, scince Im going to pull the valve covers I'm going to put new glow plugs in anyway. They're cheap and mine have a lot of miles on them. When I pull the valve covers I will test the harnesses on both sides for continuity through the plug and through the doorman gasket on the driver side.
I made a video of my truck hard starting this morning, I'm waiting for it to upload to youtube and I'll post it on here.
Having 8 dead glow plugs sound odd. I would try pulling the driver's side VC and ohm right at the glow plug itself.
I completely agree. That's what I was saying up above. Sounds odd. But both valve cover harnesses messing up at the same time? And one of them is new even. But, I have driven 21,000 miles since I tested the glow plugs. Maybe they have been going out one at a time. I don't want to pull the valve covers and not replace the glow plugs again because I know they're old anyway.
I don't have time to pull the valve covers to test everything, put it back together and wait for glow plugs and then take it back apart again to replace them. I would rather go ahead and get glow plugs and then take it apart to test everything just in case it is the glow plugs. I will replace them anyway while I'm in there. Might as well. I'm hoping to have glow plugs sometime within a week.
I picked up a 12 gauge 50ft extension cord and a timer so I can use the block heater for now.
As always I appreciate the help! Keep the ideas coming!
