Well, sure enough, put my glow plugs back in and started plugging in the glow plug connectors and, the wires are already starting to split and crack. I think it's been a year maybe a little bit more since I put this dorman gasket on. And now I'm going to have to replace it. Fortunately I do not have the parts or time right now so I'm going to have to put it back together for now and order me a new motorcraft OEM harness and gasket. Luckily it's on the driver side so it's the easy valve cover to take off not that the passenger side is much harder.
All right someone needs to explain this to me. Trying to put oil back in so I can turn the motor over and blow all of the oil out of the cylinders, but the oil will not go back in. Not very fast anyway. I'm using a long skinny funnel and I'm just putting it into one of the oil return holes going back to the crankcase and pouring oil. It doesn't take but a little bit of oil and it's full and it takes forever to drain down. It will take me an hour to pour one of these 5 qrt containers. Is there a faster way to add the oil back to the crankcase? I don't want to turn the motor over even by hand until I at least have some oil in it just cuz I don't like the thought. But it's going to take forever to add the oil like this. It's threatening to rain again and I need the truck by tomorrow to get back to work. Is there a better way to add oil back to the crankcase? Or should I slap the glow plugs in and put the valve covers back on and crank it with oil in the cylinders?
Maybe I missed it, but did you pull any injectors? Why on earth are you worried about oil in the cylinders if you didn't? The teaspoon of oil in the glowplug wells isn't enough to even coat the lower edge of the piston up against the cylinder wall.

I didn't remove any injectors but I was not sure how much oil went into the cylinder from the glow plugs being removed. I know the cylinders are probably pretty large in these motors but I've never seen one so, I just wanted to be safe and make sure there wasn't enough oil in there to hydrolock. I'd hate to spend hours being careful with my paint job putting valve covers on just for the motor to hydro lock and have to take it all back apart.
I do very much appreciate you saying that and it puts my mind at ease to know that that little bit of oil would not hydrolock the motor. Thanks!
I'm about to put the driver side valve cover on and put my CAC pipes on. I'll be back up and running very soon!
Got her back running! I did not prefill the hpop reservoir so it was a little bit of a harder start. It was also cold out. But my glow plugs are definitely drawing something now! Voltage was sitting at 12.5. and drop to 10.9/11 when I turn the key on and the glow plugs kicked in. she has been sitting since Friday morning. I videoed the hard start.
Truck fired right off like nobody's business this morning. I feel like it cranked a half a second longer than normal but, there's still air in the system. I think all my problems are solved for the time being other than that crappy dorman gasket.
