1997 C&C 4x4 upkeep thread.
Rear leak was an axle shaft seal, wheel seals looked good. got it cleaned up, replaced the oring and left off centercap to monitor for leaks.
First to get the truck on the lift I removed the running boards. I didnt use them anyway as the height/width just didnt work for me and i always stepped over them.
Removed the front bug guard as well.
Wife helped by cleaning front headlights with Deet bug spray. Its not the best, but it works and i think it looks better overall.
May add some tube steps/nerf bars of some sort to save the seat wear.
Unf-ckd & cleaned the battery cables and got them properly pushed down/spread out on the posts. Batteries are 4-5 yrs old but starter still made a nice improvement.
Getting rid of this mess, it feeds the trailer brake controller, 7 pin at gooseneck and 7 pin at the rear. I dont care its a rats nest at the rear of the truck too and its all going to go front to back.
left to right - original starter, 01' 7.3 starter, 100k mile 6.7 starter
7.3 starter and parts on the left, 6.7 on the right. swapped the nose cones like the tech writeup in the 99-03 forum. I was able to get the 6.7 starter separated without pulling the armature out of the brushes so I was happy.
Went ahead and yanked the rear driveshaft before called it a day. Someone replaced the rear ujoint with a non greasable cheap parts store junk joint. Its grease has already about turned to liquid and it has stiff spots. Going to replace both with 1350 spicer life series joints.
For some reason I'm nervous about raising this thing up on the lift. I think its the weight of the bed/100 gallon fuel tank. I estimate it about 8-8500. My lift is 10k and my 01 weighs about 8k, and i had my 9,000 2017 f350 on it many times I'm just overly cautious because the balance point is different..

Wouldn't you know it something started leaking fuel all over the shop floor after this startup and my Gazzotto Efuel kit shipped out today!
Good to see the 6.7L starter mod worked out well. The next time we are down there I will likely ask to hear it in person.
Keep up the good work.
Depending on your preference, I wouldn’t put too much effort into the auto hubs before I would just replace them with manual ones.
Shifting gears is definitely fun!
im on the lookout for a set of used 30 spline hubs.
most of my off road buddies throw them away when they upgrade to 35 spline, I’m guilty as well🤬 hoping to pick up used set for cheap.
today wasnt much.
threw ujoints in her. Snapped a few extra pics to highlight why I’ma fan of non greasable spicer life series ujoints. Obviously the newer joint was the junk parts store garbage at the pinion and the original at tcase looked way better. Probably would have been fine to keep running.
pretty standard stuff, missing my vise but thankful for my press. Until recently all ujoint jobs have been concrete floor and wood blocks with a alot of cussing
Check that brake pressure switch, looks OE. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...d-control.html
That press is still too small to R&R the gears on the counter shaft of the S5-4x units! One needs a minimum of 50k to do them, I only know this as my direct gear was in poor shape and needed to be swapped. Midwest hooked me up with one hour of labor to R&R it and drop on my bearings while they had it.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Thanks for the tip on the brake switch & the press!
Parts continue to trickle in. Up-pipes, boost/pyro, vc gaskets/harnesses, turbine wheel, compressor wheel & rebuild and 1.0 exh housing and belt came in. Looks like ill get the rest of it this week. This weekend ill likely go ahead and yank turbo, up pipes fuel bowl etc. Will be my first up pipe job with cab on, not looking forward to it.
Ripped the rest of the fire hazard wiring out and took her to get cleaned.
Ended up spending 4 hrs working on pressure washers. Hot water unit needs unloader valve. Old reliable ended up getting the job done with cold water and purple power.
after all that i said f it and had a beer.
Filthy under where engine cover was.
Noticed oil in icp sensor, yay.
I tried my best with shade tree tricks, but it just needs replaced.
Better, but still dirty
.Thx for the kind words, As long as I don't get sick again I'm going to put a dent in it this weekend now that she's clean underneath.
Where did you source your battery cables? Bulk or a kit?
I ran back over to stick tender on the truck and I figured its been less than 24 hrs, maybe it will fire up like it always has, nope ran batteries dead cranking. My dad always had a way of making things work.

On Edit: here is the link...
I wrote down some notes/directions from Mark Fugazzotto 's YouTube video on his e-fuel.

May break down and buy some riffraff boots, if they are in stock yet?
Cheapest snap on tool I own, free. Someone left me a 13mm 3/8 drive. Ipr nut was tight, but solenoid seems cracked at the plastic.
Bowl came out easy.
Pile-o-parts. Missing my long wood workbench. In due time..
Both up-pipes were leaking good, the other you cant tell cause my greasy hands all over the top. Pass side slipped right out.
Fuel pump came out pretty easy, Lightly popped it on the top with hammer and just wiggled and pulled and eventually came out.
Half assed cleaned valley, I'm not interested in getting it spotless. Slapped in freeze plug that comes with kit, pulled off hose ends and covered turbo oil passages and called it a night after cleaning the wife's vacuum with shop air.
Will be digging in to turbo next for sxe wheel, comp wheel and rebuild with DIY ebpv delete

You will love a high power starter in these rigs. I have a real deal Denso and spin over crazy fast
