1997 C&C 4x4 upkeep thread.
My oil pan to dipstick adapter is leaking a lot & I I have a diesel orings kit on the shelf.
But I'm pretending its not for now
. Do you have a thread on yours?
Picked up third fuel filter bowl from PO Box. Hope I can make one good from three. Hahaha. Truck is to flip on a budget...oh and it stunk the place up like my injectors did from Bitterroot.

I too would have popped on that fresh, late HPOP if on shelf. That early is now a core.
I still see the OBOD. 👎
. I drained it as best as I could. What does obod stand for? If its the cruise control thing, thats sitting with the other parts on the flatbed.

I coined that phrase.

dont worry the riff raff boot is on the bed also waiting
i experienced this on a 97 i had in 2004-2006 and replaced with a ford rubber boot.
the boot you see in pictures is a tymar intake boot and heavier material that the paper thin factory stuff.
BIL gave me a hand with the up pipes, Man that really helped. Took us about 30 minutes.
Next stuck new o-rings on the new to me ipr, thanks again @Tpayne621
Cleaned mating surfaces and put on the 17* hpop with obs fittings installed.
Stuck on the motorcraft hpop hoses and called it a day to spend time with kiddos.
Hoping this weekend to get turbo rebuilt and e-fuel on, I need this truck back up and running.
fan was stuck in diesel torpedo heater but got it freed up and working and got started. Kept it about 40-45 i would run about 20 min and cut off about 20.
got everything dissassembled and cleaned.
turbo has been apart before from what i can tell….friggin compressor housing was sealed with rtv, what a pita mess.
Diy ebpv delete
Die grinder to grind rivets.
1.0 housing and ebay turbine/conpressor and rebuild. Pissed at myself for trying to be cheap on the wrong part. More on that later
Cut that off shaft to plug hole and weld up
Friggin silicone all in the oring groove🤮
Clean
Rear seal was weeping pretty good , heat shield had alot of soot/oil buildup…
Going back together, noticed wheel looks same as stock
Decided to stop at this point and order kc turbine wheel
Ebay turbine same as stock….. shane on me for trying to be cheap .
Just a few thoughts:
Did you re-do the rear brakes? It looks like the rear shoes were on the one side and the front shoes on the other. Big shoes go on the rear. Was that the adjuster problem?
Flush all the brake lines and get rid of that nasty black stuff that's in there. If the rubber lines have never been changed it would be a good time to replace them all. I just did all 3 on mine and they were less than $100 for all of them. With all you are doing under the hood you are going to want this thing to stop at some point.
Throwing a pressure washer part in there made me read that one several times. LOL
Diesel torpedo heater? I'm thinking a nickname for the turbo??? We don't have those in Central Florida LOL
Is there a benefit to piecing your turbo together vs buying one? Or is it just the cost?
My goal for my '97 F350 is as stock as possible. I drove it 10 miles so far, with dragging brakes, separated tires, 8 year old fuel and the rear diff with all bad bearings and the clutches installed wrong and pieces of clutches apart. A stock running truck is my first goal. I am enjoying watching your project. Thanks for posting.
Thats a great catch on the rear brake shoes, I didn't pay much attention to them, but looking back at the pictures I can see it clear as day. Damn it, I hate doing drum brakes...added to the list
I've got new brake hoses sitting in boxes on the bed, looking forward to flushing brakes. Since I blew a brake hose in a 65 Chevy at 15 yrs old and ran thru a fence & hit tree I've developed a tendency to overdo it with brake systems.
I got the pressure washer fixed BTW with new unloader valve.
I dont know the proper name for it, scroll up to the picture of the new turbo parts, see the glowing round metal cylinder in the background? Thats what I'm referring to.
Only benefit to piecing the turbo together is cost, spending less than $500 on rebuild / parts vs a little over a thousand for a stock plus KC turbo.
That sounds like it was a fun ride.
