New to me 1990 F350 Dually non turbo IDI 7.3 E4od with 90k miles. It’s been a bit of a restoration project, tonight was its maiden journey.
Runs great, makes good power, shifts strong. Cruising along at 50 and engine revs up. No drive , no reverse, 2 or 1. No warning,no slipping, no noise. Drifted to the side of the road. Fluid is clean, clear, full and not burnt.
It’s at the trans shop now, but curious if anyone has had there E4od just fail with no warning.
Possible pump failure. No pressure, no go. Or a mechanical failure of the input shaft, like a sheared shaft or stripped splines. Did you crawl underneath and see if your torque converter bolts are still attached to your flex plate? I've never had something like that happen to me without a huge puddle afterwards.
Looks like the input shaft broke.
$3800 quote to replace the trans.
I’m upside down on the truck now. Whole lot of work and $ put into it. Not sure if I’m going to keep it or cut my losses. It’s a great truck.
That is possibly the most beautiful truck I've ever seen a picture of on this forum. Damn shame about your transmission! Input shaft broke? How does that even happen?

Just FYI, you can get a remanufactured E4OD from these guys shipped to your door for 2300. If you can do the swap yourself you'd end up saving a lot of cash.

The diesel are known to twist the splines out of the forward drums most e4od s and 4r100 have a foward drum that isn't splined all the way threw older versions and c6 had the splines all the way threw the drum. But becareful while the foward drums will fit u may have to use supporting parts from the donor trans
